You open a bottle of wine with the intention of having a glass or maybe two, and the cork breaks apart doggone it !!!! ... now what? Make the paper towel cork ??? That's not really good ... so what do you do????????

I only use wine for cooking (in it's original form it gives me a massive headache ). I just put a pourer spout in the bottle and put it in the fridge. Okay, all you wine afficiando's, go nuts !

Are you saying 1/2 the cork's stuck in the bottle? Or the cork broke so you can't put it back in to store leftovers?
Can't help you with the first option, and with the second, what leftovers????

Either push it through or toss it. The rest will take care of it's self.
Well shoot you just need a vacuum wine cork. I have some like these and I love them. You put the colored part in the bottle, then flip the latch down. That will make the colored part get bigger and vacuum seals the bottle. Very inexpensive. I think I go mine at Bed Bath and Beyond. Its been a while I got a bunch of them. I know they work because they will keep the bubbles in champagne/sparkling wine.

Those are cool Kat-Lady. They function under the same principle as a set Fran got some years ago from QVC (where else? ) except that hers are twist-on and larger and you have to remove them as opposed to be able to pour through them.
To reiterate what Donna said,,,,what leftovers? The lovely Mrs Jones (Vita) my F.B.I. (Full Blooded Italian) NEVER has leftovers in the wine department. We just throw the cork away when the bottle is opened! ;-)
Trudy, just who do you think you're fooling?? You never really wanted to put part of it away for later. You were just worried that you might knock it over (after a couple of glasses) and spill the precious nectar of the gods.
Seriously, I think we talked about this before and I tried to tell you about the stoppers I use for my wine. They are the ones that Kat posted a pic of! Very inexpensive, and I always have a couple in my kitchen drawer. They work great! I even brought one on the Conquest last year. Although I didn't use it.....somehow I just never had any leftovers!

Yep!!! I was worried that the unused portion would tip over in the fridge while it was waiting for me to "finish it off" I was forced to use the paper towel impromptu cork, but have since gone to the store and bought Kat's handy dandy little reccomendation, so I do not foresee this being a problem in the future
Glad to know that the general consensus here is "what leftovers" at least we are all on the same page with that one!
To quote April ... Cheers!
