Default Best Conditioned Athletes

have got to be soccer players..they must each run 7-8 miles per game non stop

just when the USA gets hooked on the World Cup, we get eliminated..to keep it in perspective, our best all around athletes have a wide variety of sports to pursue, in most World Cup countries, soccer is the sport that they gravitate too

the NBA Lakers may have celebrities seated courtside, but only the World Cup can have Bill Clinton, Mick Jagger and Reggie Bush sitting side by side in the VIP box..I wonder if the Spanish goalie's tv commentator girlfriend interviewed the trio..and if so, if she can't speak English, I wonder how they communicated with

I am now rooting for Brazil

I have to disagree - how about Mahut and Isner and that 5 set epic at Wimbledon!

Sorry - I know plenty of soccer players and no way are they as fit as either a Nadal or Lance Armstrong.

We agree to disagree

Yes ,to a lesser degree .However a tournament handball player can play as much as 7 games in a relatively short period of time and all outdoors in august .

Actually, I think the most conditioned athlete in sports is Swifty!

That's the rabbit that the greyhounds chase around the track. !

Seriously, I have to agree with Henry on this one, at least thus far. I've never played handball as I get worn out just watching folks play that sport! Jai Ali isn't for those who aren't in the world's best shape, either.

I know bike riders and there is no way they are in the condition of Kaka, Robinho, or Cristiano Ronaldo. ;-) I guess my point is unless you are very lucky you don't know any soccer players at the top professional level of the Brasil or Portuguese national teams. Just as the people I know that ride bikes are not at the level of Lance Armstrong. I do agree that both bike racers and soccer players have a high level of fitness. But I do have to ask how often do the bike riders compete. In the World Cup the National Teams only have a few days between matches and they play more and more difficult matches as the tournament goes on. Plus after the first round games can go into overtime. Which means each game can last up to 120 minutes with only 3 players being replaced during the match. So we do disagree, however, I do respect the work and fitness level of the bike racers.:-D I still think Soccer players have more stamina and play a more physically demanding sport.

I have never seen a Handball match, but it sounds difficult. Heat is much harder to play in the cold.

I know personally several International Soccer Players ( they were either school friends of my brothers or I played street football with them) who have played in World Cup Finals and they act as my benchmark.

There is no way they could play a 5 set Tennis Match one day and another the next day. Never mind poor Isner or Mahut; Djokovich was in serous physical trouble today

Handball - I concede - I have no knowledge of the sport and bow to those who understand the sport.

Speed Skaters? - I wonder where they would rank and how about gymnasts?

One thing is sure - all of them are fitter than I am

I could test their stamina, but I'm not sure my hubby would like that.

Kat..your husband won't mind because he has been selected as a judge to select the females for next year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition

two nights ago ESPN 2 had a special about the New York Cosmos..they showed the superstar players in the 1970's (Pele, Georgio, Franz B.) and they were in great shape then, but today don't look to hot...however tennis players who are now playing on the senior circuit seem to keep themselves in pretty good shape, so they might be the best conditioned athletes
