Default Left knee total replacement 8-25-2010

I am going in 8-24-2010 to Loyola University Hospital in Maywood, Il. for a left knee total replacement on 8-25-2010. The surgery should begin around noon. I will be discharged on 8-27-2010, then the fun begins. Hopefully I will recover for our 2 cruises in Oct. I am starting to get nervous, but it has to better than what I have now at 55 years old.

Good Luck. My Avo (grandmother) has this surgery in her 80s and it helped her a lot.

Good luck. Loyola is a great hospital. I'm sure you will be good to go by then just make sure you do what they tell you in rehab.

Best wishes! I've heard nothing but good things about knee replacement. My cousin who is 92 (!) recently had it and is getting around better than she has in a long time :-D!

Be sure to do the PT!

Good luck-my father has had both replaced and he does well. he just had his Hip replace 8/5 and is not doing too well. I need to do something with both of my knees but I sit on my job and will delay as long as possible and my husband will have to have both replace soon. So good luck again .

Best of luck Hannibal and I know you'll do well. I too have heard nothing but rave reviews by those who've that this surgery. But as Fern has pointed out, it is imperative that you do the Physical Therapy because that is a major part of the equation.

Kerengade, both my hips are going but the right hip is so bad that I had to take a real pain pill last night for the first time, just to get to sleep. I'm in the process of losing weight and hopefully that will bring some relief and I'll be able to at least delay the inevitable.

Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. I get admitted today for surgery tomorrow. I am a firm believer in PT, I have had other surgeries before, so I know the importance of PT. It has taken over 2 years to finally get to this point, so it is hard to believe that it is finally here. I will give an update when I get back home.

Hannibal, the best to you and wishes for a speedy recovery. I am heading to Stanford Hospital myself tomorrow AM for some tests and possible work. The sad part is I will most likely miss the Splendor trip that starts this coming Sunday, and yes I have insurance. Take care, Mike

I just had arthroscopy surgery done on my left knee on the 20 aug, I am getting around pretty good, and already my knee is feeling better. The nurses and therapists all said that the exercise is the most important thing after.

I know of at least 3 people who have had knee replacement surgeries, and all of them are doing great! Good luck, and I wish you a speedy recovery!

I got out of the hospital Friday afternoon. It is an experience, the pain wasn't all that bad, my back hurt more from laying in bed for the 3 days. I thought the scar area would have been bigger and more swollen but it wasn't. Every thing is fine until the pain killer starts to wear off. I am getting around on crutches all right, so far. A nurse and PT person are coming out today to check me out. I had blood issues so with taking a blood thinner for 4 weeks the nurse will be drawing blood ofter so they can keep an eye on it. My Doctor said I had the biggest knee he ever replaced, it was a #8 which is the biggest made, my little claim to fame. I go back to get the staples out 9-7-2010.
