What is the worst song of all time?

So I was listening to a list of worse songs for all time. I find I didn't agree with all the songs on the list. My worse song of all time is one a lot of people love. I don't; I'm sorry my c-sis was obessed with the song and I got to the point I hate this song. "American Pie" by Don McLean. Yes I understand the meaning behind the song. I know it's about the 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper (Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr.). I still hate the song.

What song do you think is the worse song of all time?

Lakers Fan August 24th, 2010 10:16 AM

The worst song of all time is Saki-Laki-Waki by The Vicounts

Mike M August 24th, 2010 10:33 AM

There are a number of songs from the Disco era of the 70's that make me cringe when I hear them. Karma Chameleon is one of them.

Take care,
Mike

Katlady,

Saying you hate "American Pie" is like saying you hate the "Star Spangled Banner"

All the worst songs can be lumped together in one category...

"RAP"

Lakers Fan August 24th, 2010 10:37 AM

American Pie is one of my alltime favorite songs

Oh I like the "Star Spangled Banner." You would hate "American Pie" if you hear it 50 times in an hour as a kid. I was lucky somehow that album was left in the sun and the record got wrapped.;) People also get upset when I say I don't like American Pie. rofl

I have to agree with Mike Karma Chameleon is a horrible song.

There is not one catogory of music I dislike. I was hoping to a song list.

Dave Beers August 24th, 2010 11:23 AM

Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks annoyed me in the 70's. However my absolute #1 choice is Rocky (I've Never Been In Love) by Austin Roberts. I'd literally cover my ears and hum when that song came on.

Paul B August 24th, 2010 11:46 AM

Any song where the sound is louder than the singers voices, and the few words that you can make out don't make any sense. I would also include rap, but I don't consider rap as being music.

rollerdonna August 24th, 2010 01:05 PM

I didn't even have to finish reading the title of this thread before I had my #1 worst song: "In the Year 2525" by Zager & Evans.
I HATE that song!

Dave Beers, "Seasons in the Sun" runs a close 2nd for me too....

Dave the Wave, "RAP" is not the worst music, because it is NOT even music!

As for American Pie, I always liked it, and now even more since seeing the Broadway show about Buddy Holly, it means all that more....

Louie,Louie, anyone know the words? rofl

Lakers Fan August 24th, 2010 02:33 PM

Do I get a second for my choice ?

(I spelled the name of the group wrong-It should read VISCOUNTS)

skymaster August 24th, 2010 03:19 PM

I TOO HATE "American Pie" for very nearly the same reason you Hate It. My EX played it over, and over and over again!
I TOO HATE "RAP' in general, but my least favorite song lately has to be "Love Shack". What a piece of crap that is! Somebody ALWAYS does it at karaoke, and the damn thing is 6 or 7 minutes long! AGONY!

We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.... I love that one!

ToddDH August 24th, 2010 04:17 PM

I agree, believe it or not, pretty much with everyone! The only singular exception would be I don't really hate American Pie, it's just that I don't like songs with stupid lyrics not to mention it's too long. I don't remember hearing Love Shack but I gotta feeling I'd be better off trying to keep it that way. When they first came out with Electric Rock I swear to you it sounded to me like the NY Philharmonic tuning their instruments in preparation for a concert interspersed with someone screaming as if they were being stabbed to death. 'Course, I have no taste whatsoever in music (as evinced by the fact that I love light opera, light classical, big band, 50's-60's, and early 70's rock'n roll, Broadway, Southern Gospel and Country equally well) so what the hell do I know? ;) :)

Trivia....J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) was a popular DJ before he started his music career.

Contrary to popular belief, the lyrics to Louie-Louie (a number I also don't like but not because of the lyrics) are not in the least dirty or vulgar. I've forgot them James (I'm sure you could find them on the Internet), but I can tell you they're actually about a sailor who has to leave his girl behind as he has to go to sea. The Kingsmen neither wrote the song nor were they the first group to record it. I personally believe they made the lyrics purposefully unintelligible and then started that rumor that they were dirty, simply as a means to sell more records. In that, they obviously succeeded.

And as for RAP? Duhhhhhhhh.....................

Dave, I agree 100%, Someone might not like Elvis, but at least he could sing. Mike

Dave Beers August 24th, 2010 06:42 PM

MacArthur Park always struck me as a stupid song (someone left the cake out in the rain?). But easily the worst version was by Richard Harris.

Oddly, with the disco beat the Donna Summer version isn't so bad.

Brother Louie by Hot chocolate.

She was black as the night
Louie was whiter than white
Danger, danger when you taste brown sugar
Louie fell in love over night
Hey man, what's wrong with that?
Nothing bad, it was good
Louie had the best girl he could
When she took him home to meet her mama and papa
Louie knew just where he stood

Louie Louie Louie, Louie Louie Louie
Louie Louie Louie, Louie you're gonna cry

All right, what's all this about?
I love her, man
Oh yeah, man, let me tell you
I don't want no honky in my family, you dig?
No honky in my family

See what I mean
Louie really caused a scene
He did, I tell you
Ain't no diff'rence 'tween black or white
Brothers, you know what I mean

Louie Louie Louie, Louie Louie Louie
Louie Louie Louie, Louie you're gonna cry

There he stood in the night
Knowing what's wrong from what's right
He took her home to his mama and papa
Louie had a terrible fright

What's goin' on?
Well, we're in love
Now listen, let me tell you
I don't want no spook in my family
Get it, no spook in my family

See what I mean
Louie really caused a scene
He did, I tell you
Ain't no diff'rence 'tween black or white
Brothers, you know what I mean

Louie Louie Louie ....

White men with perms...so wrong.

At least he fingered some chords while pretending to play his Telecaster.

katlady August 24th, 2010 08:29 PM

Okay I asked Creamy Italian (my hubby) his least favorite song. He said He has to listen to this whiny song at work. This one is called Fall for you by Second hand serenade.

Mike M August 24th, 2010 08:39 PM

Kat:

That is one bad song!!!

Aerogirl:
That song isn't "Louie Louie".

These are the original lyrics:

Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go

Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home

CHORUS

Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.

CHORUS

Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!

GUITAR SOLO

See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again

CHORUS

Let's take it on outa here now
Let's go!!

Several folks mentioned RAP-- to complete RAP you have to add one little letter to the very front of it and it becomes quite complete--the letter is a
C, making it what it is---CRAP. :( :( :(

"They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha, They're Coming to Take Me Away"

Dr. Demento's Delights
Warner Bros. 1975 BS 2855 0698

Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And.. They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!
You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!
I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they'll find you yet and when they do they'll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming
to take me away, ha-haaa!!!
To the happy home, with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haa!!!
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time... (fade out)
Hey, buddy!
Yes officer..
You a head?
No, but I'm catching up, ha ha ha....

This is the worst

I'm having a gray moment as to the title and singer, but is "The desperation Song" wherein she sings..."let it please be him, Oh, dear God it must be him or I will die."
gag me....rofl

Cruznut2 August 25th, 2010 06:10 AM

I have to agree with Dave the Wave, I do not like Rap Crap. Most of it is filth. Many songs come to mind especially the ones by the current crop of teeny bopper idols, Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers. If I have to choose one song then it has to be that annoying "May The Bird Of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose" Its insidious lyrics seem to crawl into my head and stay there. I usually find myself singing that annoying ditty for hours...grrrr!!!

Laura

Sid1962 August 25th, 2010 06:37 AM

Where to start?

Well, I will go back several decades to my youth.....to wit:

Tell Laura I love Her;
Teen Angel;
Leader of the Pack.....

Advancing a few years:

Achey Breaky Heart (and I do like Country, but come on.....)

Convoy (..and CW McColl (sp?) has done what since that?)

Not in any chronological sequence:

Honey (Bobby Goldsboro (sp?))
Don't worry; Be Happy

Not sure I could pick an all time least liked from the list...but I surely do change the station when these come on the radio....

Good thread....thanks.

Mike M August 25th, 2010 08:17 AM

I think a lot of us put "Worst" song in with "Sick of hearing it". There are a number of decent songs that are just played to death and we don't want to hear them again.

I like the song "Band on the Run" by Wings but it was played so much on top 40 radio, in the 70's, that I couldn't stand it anymore. I listened to it last night on XM and I really enjoyed it.

Shortly after I heard Band on the Run I heard one of the worst songs of all time. Bay City Rollers, "S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y Night". Now that was bubble gum crap. The Monkees had better stuff.

Take care,
Mike
