Thanks Jacki and Lombard. Yep, the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I are still on for sure. We'll be there unless something comes up with Vita's little business that we can't avoid, and I don't see that happening. (Sure hope not anyway!) We're really looking forward to seeing everybody! Thanks Tweets, for thinking of us. A BIG hello to the Coot! We'll be there!

I've just sent a note to Ray to let him know that my husband Wayne and I hope to join you at the dinner on Dec. 6th. We're really looking forward to meeting so many of you who will be attending!

It's such a long drive to get there (we usually spread it over 2.5 days from eastern Ontario) that we've managed to figure out a short cruise that will fit in with our trip! What a Christmas present!!!!!!!

I just read your note to the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and she just snickered! Maybe she's got something up her sleeve?

GREAT news Cruwysie and Wayne! We look forward to meeting you! Be careful on that long drive down, and we'll see you on the 6th.

Okay gang,

I need your help. I have been making plans for our trip, and my head is spinning. Let me tell you what I have planned, and you Florida folks tell me what I am in for.

We drive into Orlando on the 1st of Dec. Rent a car at the airport and drive to Daytona Beach. This part of our trip is pure honeymoon stuff. Room on the beach, spa tub in suite. You get the idea. We also want to go to the Daytona speedway for the day. We check out on the 4th of Dec.

We drive to Tampa. (I did the google map and it said about 2 hours driving time, but all of you know the roads, so does that sound about right?) We will be staying at the Holiday Inn on Corporate Lake Dr. and attending the Bucks/ Falcons game the next day.

After the game we drive back to Orlando to spend the next two nights. The man in Orando said that the drive is about one hour. Does that sound about right?

Of course on the 6th we finally meet people I have known and loved for the last 5 years.

FYI We don't have any plans to go to Disney World. Without Joe it would be to sad, so that isn't a problem.

Okay, What do you think? Any roads we should avoid, take, Places to eat in any locations, or in between locations.

Thanks

Hi Luanne,
This all sounds very do-able. The trip to Tampa from Daytona will probably take closer to 3 hours depending on traffic on I-4....just avoid I-4 at the traditional rush hours and you should be fine.

I-4 at rush hour is kinda like downtown Houston at noon. Not at all pretty.

Talking of routes I take it that getting from FLL to Orlando it would be better to take the Turnpike as opposed to I-95?

The turnpike brings you more into Orlando. If you take I-95 you'll be closer to the east coast beaches but you just take the BeachLine across to Orlando.
Traffic on the turnpike is less chaotic than I-95 in spots....there's tolls on the turnpike though.

You guys are making me giddy with anticipation with all this trip planning talk! Can you tell it's been a while since I have had a getaway, cruise or vacation? I haven't had a solo trip in years... not sure if I will remember how to behave:evil:.

Thanks Angela, I don't mind paying tolls if it makes my drive easier.

Yes, but you wouldn't believe how much the airlines wanted for me to bring it on the plane !

Seriously, I would love to do that sometime... it is a long trip though and I'd like to take at least a month make a stop to see Todd & Fran, lots of friends in the Carolina's and Georgia. Then find a beautiful oceanside campground where I can go scuba diving from the beach... yup that will do lol.

Lombard, the toll on the Fla Turnpike from Ft. Lauderdale, to Orlando is less than $10 as I recall, and IMO, well worth it. (We use it but get on/off before Orlando when cruising out of Miami or Ft Lauderdale). Beenie, I agree that in PERFECT traffic the times given you are about right, but realistically, the trip from Daytona to Tampa is 3 hours or so. Tampa to Orlando will probably be about 2 hours, unless you catch the "Mouse" traffic. Hope you enjoy our stadium, and the Bucs game. If you need anything while in Tampa, let me know.
I too can't wait to see everyone!

AS far as travel, except for the trip to Daytona, the rest of the driving will be on the weekend. The traffic here is usually better on weekends. Is it also true there?

Sky, We are debating on how to get to the stadium, and back. The hotel says it is 3.8 miles. They don't have a shuttle, but we wondered about getting a cab, or just driving. What do you think? How soon should we get there the morning of the game?

Hey Luanne: Actually, from Corporate Lake Drive, I think you might be better off just taking a cab. If you drive, you've got to park, and unless you go quite early, that can be a PIA. You really aren't very far from the stadium, but since you're aren't totally familiar with the traffic patterns, and where the available parking is, it could be quite stressful. On the other hand, if you already have the rental car, you could make a "recon run" to the stadium the day before the game, and also ask the hotel staff about parking there. It could work out O.K. for you that way. What the heck,,,,life is an adventure isn't it? We used to tailgate to those games, but we haven't been to one in a BUNCH of years. We always got there at least two or three hours early,,,but spent most of that extra time in the parking lot. If you take a cab, I'd think an hour early would be more than enough.

Luanne, we were just in Tampa yesterday and there was a game. There is a large General parking lot on the north side of the stadium and once on Dale Marby North And South of the stadium there are signs about the different parking lots. We went by about an hour prior to kickoff and the traffic was not too bad.

here is the FAQ page for the stadium: Raymond James Stadium | Frequently Asked Questions

AH YES! I'd forgotten about that parking lot. That's actually where the "old stadium" used to be, and they tore it down, and built the new one just South of it, then made a parking lot out of the site of the old stadium. That should work out O.K. for Luanne and Jim. In the past, all the parking directly around the stadium was reserved! Thanks for refreshing my memory!
