“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.“

We were on our River Cruise Budapest to Amsterdam. Regensburg is a city of 150,000 in Bavaria, southeast located at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers, at the northernmost bend in the Danube. The first settlements in Regensburg date to the Stone Ages. The Celtic name Radasbona was the oldest name given to a settlement near the present city. In 179 the Roman fort Castra Regina was built during the reign of Emperor marcus Aurelius, it corresponds to what is today the core of Regensburgs Altstadt, Old City. From about 530 to the first half of the 13th century, it was the capital of Bavaria. In 1135 to 1146 a bridge across the Danube, the Steineme Brucke. was built. This stone bridge opened major international trade routes between Northern Europe and Venice and this started Regensburgs golden age as a city of wealthy trading families. The history of this city goes on and on much to lengthy to put in here.
