Was a big day in pop culture history. 350 million people, probably you, and definately me, were sitting around the tv, watching J.R.Ewing get shot.

Dallas, had the country hooked....were you? I bet this would
never happen today!

30 years ago? OMG, where did the time go?
And in answer to your question, I never watched the show....

I have never watched a full episode of Dallas. However, because of its popularity I know that Bing Crosby's daughter (I forget the character's name) shot JR and I know about "the dream".

I do remember the office talk about who shot JR and it was definitely the hot topic.

Take care,
Mike

Yep, I was glued to the T.V. That's probably the only Soap Opera I ever did get hooked on, but J.R. was so damned nasty, I just couldn't wait to see who he was going to "screw" next. (One way, or the other.) Glad you brought that up, and I have to agree, it certainly doesn't seem like 30 years!

JR was actually shot on the 21 March 1980 episode; his shooter was identified 30 years ago today.

No, I didn't watch it; not much into soap operas whether daytime or nighttime.

I was hooked on Dallas from the very first episode of it's pilot 6 week season and well remember the episode and following hoop-lah of "who shot JR." The problem for me was that in September when the show returned and the shooter was to be revealed (the cliffhanger) we had been hit by Hurricane Frederick and still had no power in our area. We went 3 weeks with no power. I remember lying in the dark on the bed with a battery operated TV band radio listening to the show and, of course, had to watch it in reruns to see firsthand how it played out.

I stayed hooked throughout the show until the Dream was revealed and that so turned me off that I didn't watch it again until the last few episodes.

I was living in Germany. It came on over there, but not until 4:00 in the morning.

We didn't have much money, and no car, and certainly no TV, so I took two buses, and a strass (streetcar) to post. We had a room full of people, and we had a party until it finally came on. This was in the day room of the barracks. The next morning the 1st Sgt came in, took one look at all of us, and said, "Oh crap, it's that JR thing right?"

Of course I was glued to Dallas. Who wouldn't be glued to a great show that showed the difference between the "good brother, Bobby" and "the villain, J.R." Someday, I would love to go to Dallas to see Southfork.
