Default Got a Call from Carnival.....

Got a call from Carnival this morning...wondering if we lost a cell phone on the Miracle cruise. 2 weeks after we get home, they finally get around to calling.
We had already called the 2 hotels we stayed at, the restaurants we visited, the airline, and never found it. Meanwhile, James had ordered and received a new phone, he's had it for a week now.
Carnival wanted over $20 in shipping and handling fees to return it, so we asked what did they do with it if we didn't want it back and they said they'd donate it charity. So somebody is getting a new phone.....

donna

p.s. we STILL have not received our promised "e-comment card" from Carnival. I sent them an e-mail a week ago wondering where it was, and they sent a reply yesterday that I could add my comments to their reply.
I replied that I had way too many comments for an e-mail and sent them a link to my review on CruiseMates. Should be interesting what kind of response I get from that!!

Donna, they might give you a free cruise.

I think the 20.00 would have been worth it...you would have an extra phone, in case you lost it again....timely is a word, that maybe Carnval should think about, especially with returning a phone

At least they found your phone and contacted you. Many places would have just kept it or put it in their Lost & Found and then donated it or just kept it.

I would have no problem with paying the $20 to send it back. The cruise line didn't lose the phone so why should they pay the freight to return it. The amount of "stuff" that is lost or left on board is staggering and if they pay the freight it's a major hit to the bottom line to pay the freight. "You lost it you pay for it." is my opinion.

Last month I did one of the dumbest things I've done in 30 years of travel and cruising. I left one of my suitcases in the terminal in Miami. My sister was with us and was using one of our cases and I totally spaced out and grabbed both of "our" cases and went on my merry way. I realized what I did when we hit the airport but there wasn't time to retrieve the case. NCL sent it to my home, Fedex ground, and it cost me $59. Was I mad at NCL? Heck no. I was the one who made the error and I should have paid the freight to get my bag. However I will be more careful in the future.

Take care,
Mike

I left my brand new shirt on the bed on my last cruise. We were 4 hours late getting back to port and I was messing around with thing and never put it back in.I always double check any room I'm in but didn't this time. I was not happy with myself!! I would of paid to have it sent to me but I wouldn't expect Carnival to pay for it.

The 2 week delay in finding you might only be considered a slow reaction if you'd lost or left the phone in your cabin.

If lost elsewhere on the ship and turned in to guest relations, it could have been tossed into lost and found, and then sat around until someone reminded themselves to turn it in next run into port in Florida.

You were unhappy about many things on your cruise (and you have every right to how you felt about it). But being mad because you lost your phone and they didn't return it faster is probably just a result of your feelings about the cruise.

Don't know how James replaced the phone, but your homeowners insurance policy would have probably coverd the loss.

Guess I better read the review.

BTW--I'm still waiting on my last two Carnival comment queries.

I think a good thing came out of it, it was found and turned in and Carnival eventurally did call you, got to give them credit for that.

I read that if you opted out of email contact at any point when visiting their website then that is why some folks are not getting their cards.

John has said that the beards are working on the issue of folks not getting comment cards.

Just for the record, I was not mad that they wanted me to pay for the phone to be returned, nor that it took 2 weeks. Perhaps it was only just found (we figure under the bed). In addition to postage and handling there was an additional fee for crossing the border to Canada and it just wasn't worth it, since James got a free replacement phone from Rogers that was delivered in less than a week.
I was surprised though, that they still had our old address in their records when we have been at our new address over a year and did book this cruise with the new address....

BTW:

The whirlpool tub won't start until the water level is above the jets. Just in case you didn't try that.

Take care,

RD.. sorry if I misunderstood. But from your original post

It did sound like you were a bit perturverd with them for taking 2 weeks. In fact I thought that's why you were posting.

I'm getting old, and easily confused

Out of curiosity, did they call you at home? If so, they obviously had your new (yr old) phone #. Or did they call using James' cell phone #?

Strangely enough Kuki, they did call us at home, with our new home phone number, so they must have updated records. But when he verified the address for mailing, he read back to me our Montreal address....

I too, haven't received any "on line comment card" from Carnival. I finally sent them an e-mail, telling them what I thought of the worst entertainment staff and Cruise Director I've ever come across, in more than 120 total cruises. I haven't heard from them! I'd at least like to have verification that they MIGHT have read my comments!
