I made the mistake of joining a book (discussion) club a few weeks ago that I don't really have the time for....but I got about twenty or thirty books that I was told I just had to read....I've not put them on the list yet...

I grew up in a city /suburb of Boston...this was a place that holds stong memories for a zillion people, so much so, there are FB group pages, and reunions for all age groups. You knew, if you got into trouble, someone's Mothers cousin would tell your parents.
There was a friend of my sister, who had a really tough backgound, and, did very well in life in spite of her childhood. I remember my Mom, really liking Dale, and I know she and my sister had some fun times.
She wrote a book, which has gotten some good reviews. I am awaiting it from my library, and, I know it's on kindle. For me it will bring bak memories of our neighborhood, but from the reviews, not knowing of it, still makes it a great read. It might be of interest to some of you.
My son gave me a Kindle Touch for Christmas and also the new Stephen King book, 11/22/63. I'm enjoying them both very much!

If this question has been asked before, forgive me, but I didn't want to read through 400+ posts to find the answer......
I know how to download books to my new Kindle from our local library, but what about when I'm on a cruise? My Kindle is 3G and Wifi.
If I'm in Boston, for example, how do I use my Kindle to get access to my library here in Ohio? Or, do I access a local library website and download from there?
As you may have guessed, I'm not a technogeek, so I'll appreciate any guidance you can give me. Thanks.

Hi Pootersdad, Not sure about downloading books from the library, but you can use Amazon, they do have some good priced ones and sometimes even free ones. If you are going on a cruise, best idea would be to load up your Kindle before you go, then you are all set.
I too would also keep it fully loaded, and not have to rely on any outside product.....do you have the fire? You can see by the many posts, there are loads of sites for free books of all genres, to load it up.

PD, I agree, it's easiest to load your Kindle at home. I also think that you'll be able to access Kindle books anywhere you can get wifi. Whether you can get books from your local library, maybe? I wouldn't think you could get downloads from anyother library unless you have their card.

I was all set to buy the Kindle Fire. Then I found out that it doesn't have the ability to put books into Collection's like the Kindle 3 does. I can't understand why they wouldn't put the ability to sort by Collection's on the Fire?
I have over 40 Collection's on my Kindle 3. Each has at least 3 books/games, and maybe as many as 50 :o!
I don't "get" why this wasn't included in the new Fire?
Oh, well, you can't have it all!

Has anyone read Charles Frazier's Nightwoods yet? I've got it but I'm in the middle of reading Patricia Briggs right now. He's the guy who wrote Cold Mountain. The blurbs sounded good.
It looks interesting, Moiraine! Boy, the reviews are sure all over the place, huh? I think I'll download the sample and see what I think. I usually don't like to spend that much, but if it's really good I will.
Trip, I didn't read the book, but who is in the movie?
Right now I'm trying to decide whether I want to keep the Kindle Touch or the basic Kindle. They both have good and bad points, and I'm terrible at decisions! Should I just flip a coin?

Janet Evanovich writes the Stephanie Plum series, which started with One for the Money.....she is now up to,Smokin Seventeen....I envy you if you decide to read this series...I had her first on, my shelf forever, before I touched it This series literally can make you laugh out loud...I have listened to them all on tape too, and the reader is outstanding.
Katherine Heigel plays the lead, and Sherrie from the View plays Lula. If I knew I had 17 books ahead of me to enjoy, you couldn't wipe the smile off my face That happenned to me with Sue Grafton..I began with E, and got home, and, had 4 books to read in a row
I have my first Kindle which is the white one woth the keyboard..it served me well..not sure about the other one you mentioned Linda.....

Yeah, the reviews go from hate it to love it. I have a feeling there is no middle ground.
Trip, I think I would like to read the Stephanie Plum series but it will have to be after dad passes. I can't afford to read a series that long from the start right now,but it would be something to look forward to later on. This is something she'll be adding on to as time goes by?
I've got the actual book book here. Is there a way to legally share books on kindle? We are celebrating Christmas on Saturday. I halfway think my bro is getting me one. If so, I'll be happy to share...providing I ever figure out how to use the thing.

Moraine, you could read her first, to see if you even like it, and, then whenever you feel like, go on to her next one.... 17 books and counting, takes a long time Thinlk leisurely..lolI don't underdstand the sharing thing, and, I am still trying to figure out other things..you can also borrow from many local libraries, on the kindle.

I recommend "My Life In The NYPD" by James "Jimmy the Wag" Wagner. It's now out of print but it has a fascinating part concerning the life and death of my wife's adored Niece Adelaide's husband. His name was Rocco Laurie.

I bought this book and am in the middle of it. Even if it wasn't about a family member (Todd) I would enjoy it as a "cop's story"!
One of "Wag's" partner's and co-worker's was "Laurie". I haven't read much about him, yet, but expect I will.
