Anyone lucky enough to get an Ereader for Christmas, come tell us how much you love it,and what books you have downloaded already

I am sure we all have some good recommendations for you! Make sure you check out free Kindle downloads,if that's the one Santa left for you

I have a Nook and it is wonderful.
Only problem I have is staying off the Barnes & Noble website.
They have 1.8 million free books and I spend too much time looking.
I have about 250 downloaded books to read.
My favs are James Patterson, Stuart Woods & Catherine Coulter.

Brenda, I am addicted to Stuart Woods...I joined a book club, for the zillionth time, and, his new on coming out in a few weeks is one of the ones I ordered. I also listen to the books on tape from him..even though I have read them all years ago..I am listening to Dirt now...

Check out the Dead End Job series from Elaine Viets, and Rita Lakin has a great series too, as does Nancy Cohen..I could go on and on, but, I'll stop now

I'm so excited, yep, there was a Kindle under the tree :-) Been playing around with it for awhile, got it registered and hooked up to my wireless connection, everything is good. I was able to even download a sample of a book.

Now, if I could figure out how to get so called "free" books?? Only thing I see is a monthly charge to get free ones......I also have a gift card to use for bookes, now to figure out what to get....hummm......so far loving it! Oh yea, and the case, so cool with a light in the corner, you just pull out.....very cool!

Donna, If you have not already, go to Amazon and set up an account. You can set it with a cc, so all you have to do in the future is to click and purchase. I very seldom buy my books on the Kindle. I like going to Amazon, so that it is easier to see the cover, and the reviews.

Go to the Kindle store on Amazon, and look for free books. Remember you can set the font to the size that is the easiest to read for you.

Have fun!!

I too go to Amazon and in the search field, just enter free kindle books..I sometimes enter free mysteries...you should get a variety of books free... for me honestly, I have gotten only about ten that interest me....One from Andrew Gross, who wrote with James Patterson was free, and it was a great read...

Check often, because one day a book can be free, and one day a charge...enjoy it Donna!

Donna, I'm really not sure what you're seeing ? Like Luanne, I've never had to pay any fee to get free books for my Kindle. Could you post the link you're looking at??

Like Trip, I just type "free Kindle books", or something similar into the search box and find more "freebies" than I could ever read!

I also have the lighted Kindle cover. It's great!

Thanks Trip,
I did get it to work....Although I mistakenly bought a book, had no idea I did that...At least it is one I had read the sample and would of picked up anyway...OY. My son then gave me 2 disks with over 900 books on it, will go through that today, should keep me busy.

Donna, accidentally buying a book, is common, but, you can unbuy it within a short time frame...You can also call the 1800 number

What I don't understand is how can you get books from a disc? Maybe I better read my manual....

Maybe we could all post here, if someone finds a free book, that might interest Cruisemates...spreading the freebies could save us all. There are so many classics that are free, but knowing when a good mystery, a cook book,or a biography is up for grabs would be a bonus!

Some books I have loaded that have been free for a while are by Alan Jackson;
7th Victim,and Crush

Atomic Lobster Tim Dorsey

Boob Tube Mark Coker

Elvis Takes a Backseat Leanne Ellis

Invisible... Ivy malone series

Cybil Disobediance bio of Cybil Shepherd

I started out with the original Kindle a couple of years ago. It was $359!! I upgraded to the new wireless one ($139) as soon as it came out. The new screen is very nice! I pretty much take it everywhere with me and read way more than I did before.

It hasn't completely replaced regular books, though. In fact I got 2 books for Christmas. I wanted to be able to see the big color pictures in them and wanted them on my bookshelf and/or coffee table.

There are several websites where you can research and chat all about the Kindles and other ebook readers. They will have daily listings of all the new free books, too. I haven't paid over $5 for an ebook in months! My fave is kindleboards.com, but I just found a new one for freebies/bargains. Pixelofink.com

I keep mine in a sleeve and take it out to read, as I like the lightness of it in my hands.

Gosh, I have another question. My son put over 900 books on a disk, but for some reason I can't get it to copy to my Kindle. I'm thinking that is isn't supposed to copy from a disk?? Its also possible I did something wrong. I actually copied it to my computer, then tried to put it on the Kindle??

Do you know what format the books are in? In other words, what does the file name say after the dot? .mobi, .prc, .pdf? Not all types of ebook files can be read by the Kindle.

Donna.. someone at Mrs Kuki's workplace did the same for her, gave her 1000 books. But they had formatted it, so it would load to Kindle. What format they used, I don't know, as there's no computer geekishness in me.

Trip, you can maybe help me out. My brother is kind enough to donate his e-reader (probably a kindle) to me, cause he has his Ipad, and I tried to read the site at amazon to see if they have books in other languages and all I see is kids books in dutch. I do not find it easy at times to read english and the patience to keep clicking.
Do I overlook a section that says foreign languages?

No, those files should work fine. I just plugged in my Kindle to make sure....I copied a .prc file I had to it and it opened up fine. Are you copying them to the Documents folder on the Kindle?

Default Kindles and IPads.. and Books, Oh My:)

Keith couldn't wait to get his hands on the new Kindle. So he did all the work of getting it started. He also programmed by first book on the Kindle: a biography of the Duchess of Devonshire.

Can anyone tell me how often th Kindle needs to be charged?

Judy

If you keep the 3G/wireless turned off, it can last up to a month on a charge. I turn mine on every so often for a few minutes to download new books, and mine lasts a little over 3 weeks.

That brings up one thing I don't like as well with the new Kindles, though.....you have to press the Menu button to see how much of a charge you have left. The older ones showed the battery icon all the time. But I wouldn't trade this new one for anything!

To all James Patterson readers....Have you enjoyed the last few books he has written with co authors?

I used to enjoy them, but Postcards, and, Don't Blink,I just couldn't finish..His stand alone Alex Cross series, I still enjoy..This guy has to be the most prolific author out there!

Will you finish a book, you are not enjoying? I used to feel compelled to, but no longer..if I find myself purposely not picking up my book, I know it's doomed... Love a book, that grabs me from page one...
