Welcome home! Of course we want a blow by blow of the the good and the bad..this is what we live for! Relax and enjoy the season.....
We booked this cruise 13 months prior to sailing and booked a specific cabin on the main deck that my TA highly suggested .The room was fine ,I had the requested bed board and raised toilet seat . The third night we went to bed at 12:30AM and were awakened 30 minutes later by a piercing alarm ,the smoke detector .We neither smelled nor saw smoke .We immediately put on clothes and before we could get to the cabin door water began to fall from the ceiling .Luckily we were able to get our clothes away and only post cards and reading material had gotten wet .We literally ran to the front desk ,very close to our cabin .A few minutes later somebody came with a pail to collect the water .My wife and I were in the hallway while a room was being sought for us .Approximately 30 minutes later they found a room .We spent the rest of the evening there but were not able to sleep .Aside from everything else the bed was terrible and we got seasick .The next morning we were moved to a balcony cabin on the 7th.deck to try . The bed was better but my wife was still getting seasick and the toilet was not functioning .After complaining 3 times over a 12 hour period ,it was repaired but the hairdryer was not working and it took several hours to be replaced .
The aforementioned was the bad . The good was the food ,the people we met and became friends with including CM people .
Not the ugly was the weather .Although we had a lot of rain we were still able to go on our excursions .However ,everything was cancelled on Half Moon Cay .
My wife in addition made a sizeable donation to the Holland America Relief Fund aka the casino .
Welcome back Henry, Good to see you on the boards, we have missed your posts. Sorry to hear about the first night and the sea sickness. Not much you can do about the weather and a missed port, but hopefully you still were able to enjoy the cruise with good food, friends, etc. Yes, we all love hearing about cruises....
Welcome back! While we were on the Zuiderdam 11/3-11/13/10, we had 2 fire alarms for electrical issues, one on the forward end of the ship and one in the Pinnacle Grill. Neither was serious and taken care of immediately. However, it is "alarming" to passengers.
Half Moon Cay is never a guarantee. The weather and water conditions determine whether or not the Captain stays or sails. We've been there 3 times and all 3 were, IMO, dangerous conditions for tendering. The last time in November, the Capt opted to sail but I believe he was really making time to avoid Hurricane Tomas.
