Default I just want to say ...

how nice it is over here!

I found this place because I got logged out of CC and couldn't get back in.

I'm home sick today and while this board is not very active .... I went back there to read and lurk on the HAL board.

Almost every thread was filled with nastiness and rudeness. You can't ask a simple question without being told it has been asked 100 times before and to use the search feature. I guess you don't notice the nastiness when you post there everyday ....

.... but step away from it and go back and it slaps you in the face. I could not imagine posting there again.

So thanks to all of you for being so nice and civil over here :-D

Queen of O.....thanks for that nice compliment..We do pride ourselves as being a welcoming community, and strive to be civil....So many of us, over the years have been comforted, and, supported when needed, and that is a wonderful feeling.

Queen of Oakville,

When Trip made the comment about we're supportive and civil, she made the understatement of the year.

I recently suffered the devastating loss of my wife of 39 years. I have legions of local close friends family, etc., but if it weren't for the members of this board, I don't know what I would have done.

When I say we're family, I mean exactly that. Like all families, we sometimes have our disagreements but through it all, we remain family in every meaningful sense of the word. I kid you not when I tell you that you will get to know people on this site who with whom you will actually become closer than you are with close relatives .... and I'm writing of those whom you like!

Welcome aboard young lady, we're certainly glad to have you join us!

Todd

Queen... we're happy you found us. What I've found, like being in a busy city as opposed to a nice neighborhood, sometimes the "noise" can drown out the "music".

Interestingly (maybe) I was one of the very first hosts at CC when it began..... and I am very happy where I spend my time now

Dear Queen of Oakville, I'm assuming that is Oakville Ont.?
If so, welcome from a fellow Canuck!
Glad to have you onboard, and don't ever be afraid to ask any question, we'll try our best to help.

wow - i had to open the response window in a new tab, just so I could respond to everyone. I'm not exactly new ... I've been here since mid-december. I had just booked our HAL cruise, when I went back to CC. Due to some login issues, I reset my password, but could not get the confirmation emails. I complained to tech support, but got no response .... and found my way here. Although i've been here for about a month, I've already attained status as a "Senior Member" and "Cruise Maniac" ...oh well, at least the latter is true!

Trip - you are so right. I can't imagine why anyone wants to stay in a hostile posting enviroment, but like Kuki suggested, maybe one just doesn't hear the noise.

Liz and Phil - thank you!

Todd - first of all, let me offer you my condolences, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear wife. I do personally know the confort of an on-line community. When DH and I had trouble conceiving, I had a community support me through the trials and tribulations of infertility followed by the joys of conception. IRL, I was flooded with gifts and flowers and well wishes when my kids were born. My DH was astounded, that strangers could be so kind. They were strangers to him, but not to me! I am glad you have comfort here. My dad died after twenty-eight years of marriage to my mother, and I wish my mother would turn to an online community for support. She could use it!

Henry - I too have met up with cyber friends. It feels very funny to call them cyber friends though when the friendship is no different than any other. One of the women I know calls us her e-maginary friends.

Kuki - I think your "noise" comment is bang on. I also think that due to the number of posters there many hide "anon" under a screen name and feel free to flame and be mean because they are "not known". Its very sad indeed.

Rollerdonna & Comet - Yes, I hail to you from Oakville, Ontario! Hello my fellow Cannucks! Comet where do you live?

Cruznut - thank you for the welcome

Donna - thank you!
