It’s a blizzard out there!!! I was out there shoveling to at least trying to shovel and all the sudden there was a huge flash of lightning. At this point with the wind there’s no point in even trying to clear the snow, by the time you clear a spot it gets blown right back. You know it bad if Chicago public schools are closed tomorrow because they never close.
Mike... How do you do it up there!!

Yep. I was born and raised in Chicago...Lawrence and Kedzie area.
Had to walk to school no matter what. Sometimes get a ride grabbing a car bumper or back of a delivery truck.
The doors would have to covered by snow before they would close the schools!
I would get there early cuz my bike chain lock key fit the lock on the door.I could go inside and sit by the radiators and keep warm!

20 years ago we had Johnny Cash, Bob Hope and Steve Jobs. Now we have no Cash, no Hope and no Jobs. Please don't let Kevin Bacon die.
We're supposed to having the "appetizer" tonight, and the "entree" tomorrow, but so far it's only been light flurries. Waiting to see what happens overnight..

Here where we are, it has thus far been overblown with respect to overall volume of snow etc... We are probably a bit of an anomaly though because we have been right on the border edge of where the ice turns to snow and what we've gotten is pretty much a ton of sleet like ice crystals that is not like freezing rain that seems to cling to power lines and tree branches. This stuff just falls to the ground like snow, but is very dense and heavy, not fluffy and airy like snow. When you go outside and walk, you walk on top of it, your feet don't sink into it like snow. The winds is howling and the windchill is awful.
It isn't over yet and could still pack one heck of a punch. I am hoping it poops out soon. lol

Beenie:we have the same precipitation but it is also clinging to power lines and tree branches .

It's now 7:30 pm Wed. It has been snowing heavily for 7 1/2 hours.
We have had the "appetizer", the "entree" is on-going, and apparently we are now expecting the "dessert" tomorrow, with ANOTHER 10 - 15 cms!!
At least its over for now, after spending 2 hours shoveling and then the sun even came out and helped melt off the drive...Did't venture out today, but will very early tomorrow for work, hope all the major roads are OK....
Having been born, raised and worked in Chicago and gone through bad snow storms, I'm so glad I moved to Florida when I retired.
Good friend of mine who still works at the same company downtown wrote they had closed down early Tuesday afternoon and HOPE they will be open again Thursday. Wow!!!

You mean the house that Jerry Jones built? I am sure they are aware of things falling down, since the tent for the pregame has fallen, and the practice tent for the Cowboys fell.
If J Jones can charge people 200 dollars for people to watch the game from the parking lot, surely he can hire someone to camp out on top, to push the snow off.
The game should be great, but the big story will be the traffic, snow, and mass confusion this weekend.
(2) the act of being dragged from the rear bumper of a vehicle during winter months when there is a lot of snow present. Children do this by waiting at stop signs to grab onto unsuspecting cars while they stop and being dragged while sliding their feet on the snow.
Skijoring ('skē-jȯr-iŋ) is a winter sport where a person on skis is pulled by a horse, a dog (or dogs) or a motor vehicle. It is derived from the Norwegian word skikjøring meaning ski driving.
Anyway....its dangerous and no way I would do it today.
Looks like Chicago has thawed out some. So have we in Houston. Really nice day today--sunny and in the 60's. Had the windows open.
