Default I am "turned off" by :

I am "turned off" by people who constantly say "you know" .

I am "turned off" by people who say : "I will meet you 9AM tomorrow morning ". Why can't they say 9:00 ,if its morning it has to be AM .

I agree with you on both counts.

I hate it when people constantly spell words incorrectly!!! I hate listening to news reporters that constantly say "er, er, er" were they not taught in broadcast school to not do this. I definitely zone them out after a few "er's"
I hate it when former teachers cannot spell. How can you teach children to read, write and spell if you cannot do it yourself? How do you know who is right?
When you are on a health program ( spelt the American way when the right way is programme ) and you have to weigh yourself every morning , the word you need is "weigh" not "weight"
PLEASE check your spelling, applications etc, etc, before you post. It just makes you look foolish if you are posting incorrect spellings etc.

Spelled ....not spelt. Spelt is a kind of wheat.

After 20 years of crossing the pond, 'Have a good day' can still irritate although to be honest I think the insincerity in the tone of voice is the main cause.

The almost daily use of 'awesome' also grates. If you are discussing the Grand Canyon - you are forgiven.

Another cultural difference.

On our side of the pond, spelled or spelt are both acceptable as the past tense of spell.

Another cultural difference.

and that is why Latin classes should be mandatory in all schools worldwide

I am turned off when men don't remove hats when we are indoors and don't show respect to give up our seat for a woman on a crowded public transportation mode or swear at a woman you don't know

People answering a posting from 9 or 10 years ago under the seeking cruise companion area.
Why don't they check the first post date in the upper left corner?

Lower case ''I'' when referring to oneself, using accept when the correct word is except saying your instead of you're. OK we all go on a bit & forget to punctuate correctly, some including me, have forgotten how, but some write a long tirade with nothing at all, very difficult to read. Text talk- I just don't understand it & don't bother reading it. A spellcheck takes seconds.

It really gets my goat when people do not understand a different culture, are not willing to learn it, and yet are unforgiving or have no respect for it.
People being treated like a second class citizen because they are different is another thing that irritates me. The world would be a so peaceful if we were all more forgiving and look for the positive first, instead of choosing to believe another human is not worthy of our time and/or attention

I try to "live & let live", as long as the smokers keep themselves & their smoke to the areas that they are allowed in I will keep out of those areas.

Quite agree, smoking threads go nowhere....some smokers seem to think they have a right to smoke anywhere & everywhere, some non/ex-smokers seem to think that they should be able to go anywhere, even smoking areas, & not be exposed to smoke. No end to it.

I'm turned off by people that 'reserve' deck and pool lounge chairs by putting a towel on them and then don't use them for hours upon end.

hypocrisy of elected officials (regardless of political party) and religous leaders in expousing family values and quickly condemming those that don't meet their standards and then finding out they are the worse offenders

WOW, people do make mistakes from time to time. I myself am not the best speller but I would like to think people don't find me foolish.

Should we all have the right to determine if we wish to respond to a thread ,Mike ? There are so many threads on CM that did not even get one response .
