I will be going on a western carnival cruise this summer with my girlfriend and her 7 year old son. Now i am planning on proposing to her but need a few ideas on how to do it with her son being there. Should i include him in it? Do something seperate? I have to beacareful with it to because if i tell him he will tell her out of excitment before i do it.

I think that including her son is a great idea. Maybe if there is a special resturant you can get a reservation for one of the nights and at dessert time you can ask her.

I would say definitely include him, and I like the idea of the specialty restaurant and a "surprise" with dessert. You can tell them both it's just a special occasion just because they are both so special to you!

Doing the western Caribbean, with lots of great beaches, I'd propose during a little jaunt into the water.

I think just standing there in a few feet of water by a gorgeous beach, and popping out an engagement ring would have the prospective bride just melting.

I like Kuki's idea, but I think the initial proposal should be private. Then later another little ceremony could be done with her son present.

If you are not shy you could arrange to do it onstage at one of the shows, like the welcome aboard show.

Not to be negative Nelly (especially on V-Day!) but are you sure she'd say yes? I'd propose privately at first (this is about you two as a couple) and then After she says yes, I'd re-prose to "both" of them, saying you want them to be a family.

Of course, if she is expecting it, then I'd just go with the latter.

This is the safest way, especially with a child involved. She may be noncommital ...but in love. It should be private at first, and if she says yes, then talk with the child. What if the child is not ready to share Mom?

the child is ready to share mom. he tells his mom to marry me. ive been in his life since the age of 3. he is now 7. he see's me as a father figure and respects me and comes to me for comfort. as for her saying no, thats a major negative. we've talked about it and love each other very much ready for the next step. we are both law enforcement officers who just want to live happy and stress free from what we deal with on a daily basis. thank you all for your advice. im new to this so it makes me happy to see all of your post.

RVCAGABE, it sounds like you will have a great time on the cruise and from your last post I would have to say make sure to include the son in your proposal.

Prior to this explanation we had no idea if it was a good idea or if it was just something you hoped for.

i would definately think about proposing on formal night, i would go to the Maitre D for ideas and suggestions that is if you want it to be a "public" proposal with lots of cheering and clapping

Now...

We know it sounds like a good thing... but

I do not know if you have ever been married or proposed before... so whatever you do, be SURE to do it right, like down on one knee and asking properly!

It means a lot to the lady.

Well, in that case, go for it! And propose to the both of it.

I may be the only girl who feels like this .... but I hate when I see guys on TV who propose, but show her the ring first. I always wonder if the girl says yes because its a great rock! I told DH, I didn't want him to show me the ring when he proposed ..... so he proposed with a toy ring, and we selected the ring together.

Pardon my skepticism earlier,..... but I used to work in jewellery. I used to sell these very expensive rings to eager young men, only to see them return the ring, heartbroken when the girl said "no".
