With two little kids .... DISNEY is the obvious! We fly and stay at a Disney Resort.

We do a lot of road trips too to Montreal, Rochester, Ohio, Niagara Falls.

With road trips they tend to be motivated by visits to family or kid-friendly attractions like Great Wolf Lodge.

We go to Disney pretty much every year. We have done Williamsburg VA, Palm Springs, Laguna Beach CA, Anaheim CA, Myrtle Beach, Puerto Vallarta, & ST Lucia, and three islands in Hawaii.
We do Wisconsin Dells every summer. These are all just family land vacations.
I also have my list of just the girls trips!

Road trips are past tense in my vacation planning. Gave them up not too long after backpacking trips

In the past I've done several big road trips through North America, gone to Europe bought a van there, and did road trips through Europe and the middle east.

These days aside from writing for CruiseMates, I'm unemployed, and spend my winters in Arizona. And enjoy it so much no need to look for much else.

Still do the occassional golf trip to Vegas, but cruising is such a relaxing travel mode, I pretty much stick to it.

Backpacking to rail/road trips; safaris etc. India to China to Africa etc

Ocean cruising was the last vacation type I tried.

We have been to Vegas a few times, and we visit friends in Myrtle Beach every now and then.
Our favorite destination is Hawaii, and we been there twice. We also extend our cruise vacations by staying in Florida for some time before our cruises.
We like Palm Coast FL. and were there for two weeks before our last cruise.

We have been to Europe many times and visited all the Western European countries.
Last year we were in Portugal and this fall we will be in Italy.

But still, you can't beat a cruise vacation.

Not that I'm partial or anything but you might consider the most visited National Park in the US, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. At one end is the small town of Gatlinburg with hundreds of little shops, restaurants, attractions, etc. About four miles from Gatlinburg is Pigeon Forge which is not only home to Dollywood but has row after row of sights, attractions, name brand outlet malls, restaurants, etc.

A 28 or so mile ride through the park with some breathtaking scenery will bring you out to Cherokee, NC which is home to the Cherokee Reservation. If you feel lucky there is a very large Harrah's Casino and Hotel there plus plenty of native American history.

In short, the area truly provides something for just about everyone of all ages.

The last time my husband and I took a non-cruise vacation, we spent a week visiting all parts of Nova Scotia. We liked it so much we decided to move there!
Coming up will be another non-cruise vacation, an all-inclusive to Cuba.
That should be interesting...

Default Non cruise vacations

Hi everyone!

I've never been married and have neither kids nor baby goats, but I've been to Walt Disney World eight times: 1982 (with my high school senior class); 2000; 2003; 2004; 2005; 2006 (twice); 2007, the last seven times solo. My lone trip to Disneyland was in March, 1998 with my late mother, uncle, aunt and two cousins. I rode Tomorrowland Autopia at least a dozen times with my cousin Brandon when he expressed a "need for slow speed".

My father was born in Saskatoon and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan; from about nine months before he died until my 24th birthday, I had dual American-Canadian citizenship. I went to Canada several times as a boy and have recently (August, 2010) gone to family reunions in Nelson, BC.

My mom, born and raised in Richmond, CA USA, took me several times to California to see my aunt and uncle, but I was out there last in May, 2004. That year, in February, I took off to Vegas for three days, telling only my travel agent.

In May, 2008, I went with my girlfriend at the time and her three-year-old adopted son to the Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun, PA (Pocono Mountains) for a few days.

In 2010 my friend Dave and I went to see the Phillies play the Pirates at PNC Park, Pittsburgh, June 30-July 5; and to Washington, DC July 30-August 2, to see them play the Nationals at Nationals Park.

My cruise this year may be my only vacation.

Jim

We do quite a few Europe Land Trips. We spent 22 days in France last year and it was probably our best vacation ever. We toured Burgundy, Loire, Normandy, Provence and the French Riviera.

Henry..how does a guy from New York know about a regional jazz festival in Kemah (population 2243) Texas ::..I googled, then called them, they are sending me information, this year it's Sept 17th & 18th..it's on the New Orleans side of Houston (about a 4 1/2 hour drive) and they have a boardwalk and it's on the Gulf Coast (but not an official festival poster), so it's on my calendar to attend this year..thanks for the heads up

my other type of vacation is to sit home and do nothing for a week

Oh yes, I forgot about trips to Vegas. We usually do 1-2 trips per year.

But lately, cruising is cheaper. It gives us access to a casino and all our meals are included. Mind you, we get free drinks in Vegas!

If you decide to attend the festival in Kemah (as I have in 2006 and 2007) you must stay at the Kema Boardwalk Inn. You can see the concert from your terrace or walk about 50 feet .They do indeed have a boardwalk and a replica of Coney Island .In the area between the hotel and the concert stage there are numerous arcades .There are restaurants as well as an aquarium within 50 feet of the hotel .In addition there are stores and restaurants within the hotel ,outside entrances .One restaurant will serve breakfast and you will think you are in New Orleans .
