Default How soon is too soon?

... to start packing?

When do you start packing for a cruise? I don't mean just putting stuff in to a suitcase, but when do you start plannign your outfits, what to pack, laying it out etc.

We'll start packing next weekend for our 3/19 cruise. I'm packing for four of us, so I need time to re-wash summer clothes, shop for new clothes if last years' clothes don't fit the kids, figure out what travel toiletries need replenishing etc. I'll have two large folding tables set up in my room and my daughter's room, to start figuring out what needs to get packed!

Usually, we start packing the day before. However, as I am out of town on business trip, I actually laid out my clothes before I left yesterday. I will get home Wednesday, do final laundry, pack, and leave Thursday morning.

We have a couple travel drawers which hold basically all of our non-clothes items to be packed. Some things (such as spare glasses) always stay in the 26" suitcase which is only used for cruising.

the Monday after I return from my current jazz cruise..do the dry cleaning, laundry, lay everything out in the den on the guest bed right next to the suitcases by the end of the week..90 days before the next cruise, try on everything to see if it still fits, lose weight if it doesn't or purchase new outfits..I always purchase at least one new outfit every year

about 1 month before our cruise, i go thru the closets, and toiletries supply, see what i have, what i need, make my master list, get the suitcases out, open them up, air them out, start packing non-essential off season clothing about 2 weeks prior, then the final packing is done and suitcases are sitting by the door the day before we depart.

OK I am the worst!

First of all, I have a small bag, ready at all times, with medicines, toiletries etc.

I normally pack 1 hr before I leave the house for the airport.

BTW, I have no DH or children to cater for.

I developed this technique, by accident, when I had to fly to Europe on a family emergency. That day - complete packing took 20 minutes.

Whatever works for you - I say.

For me, its about a month out, still have time for shopping if that is necessary, which always is, right? About a month, you can start putting things together, not packing until the evening before, as not to wrinkle dresses, etc.

If I read my siggie right, on another thread, we're at 30 days today !!!!

...but I won't start until after this weekend. If it weren't for my daughter's birthday this weekend and wanting to keep the house neet and tidy, i'd be breaking out the luggage tonight!

I was thinking about this last night.

When we went on our annual holiday,my mother always started preparing the family hamper 2 weeks before departure

With 7 children, she had no choice and she had to allow 2/3 days for the railway company to deliver the hamper to the holiday house.

Then on day of travel - people only - no luggage - made a lot of sense.
