What...no Shecky Greene?:o

First of all - they really hate Louis C.K. although I know some people like him - I have heard worse.
I don't even consider Bill Mahr a comedian anymore - he is a commentator. I like Woody Allen, but as a standup, at #4, I dont think so. I never liked Johnathon Winters that much. I actually think Joan Rivers was hilarious in her day - her original act was killer funny. Far better than Ellen Degeneris. Jerry Seinfeld's show was funny - but as a standup, dry cleaner jokes, really? Eddy Izzard had one HBO show that was hilarious, but a second one really flopped. I would personally put Robin Williams higher, but I know some people don't like him. |
I do agree about Rodney Dangerfield - one of the last great classic comedians (before Don Rickles and other insult comedy dogs came along).
Did Jim Carrey do standup? I would like to see that. |
Andy Kaufman was way too bizarre for me..Do you remember the SNL cloned show...Fridays? Michael Richards was on it. as was Larry David. Andy did a routine, where he really went off the deep end...the looks [of horror]on the others faces was priceless.
Andrew Dice Clay, shot himself in the foot..had a short lived sit com, and faded away.... I have seen Joan Rivers twice..of course, with her old faces..hardly recognize her now! IN the 50/60's those old time comedians on the Ed Sullivan Show, used to send my parents, into gales of laughter. |

Where is Marilyn Michaels ? |
When I saw the title of this list I thought for sure George Carlin would be #1,
the man was brilliant. A lot of the names I've never heard of, and a lot of others don't deserve to be on such a list. donna |
I agree with Donna. George Carlin was the absolute BEST IMO. Janeane Garolafo and Sandra Bernhard? They don't belong on any "funny" list! What loosers they both are! Richard Pryor was funny, but nowhere as creative, or funny as George Carlin.....That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it! :p

I think I would put George Carlin at #1 Ithought he was super funny. Then Chris Rock another funny Man!Ihave never seen Lenny Bruce so I dont know about him.I dont care for Bill cosby or Adam Sandler or Jerry Seinfeld( do like Jerrys sitcom tho)I did watch Robin Willams on show time a couple Of weeks ago very funny boy that guy sure sweats alot up on stage by the end of the show he looked like he just came out of a swimming pool! I also find lewis Black very funny. They never mentioned Danna cook very funnu.

I think the only way to judge this is by looking at each comedian at their best (Best standup comics of all time).
You age at the time you saw these people has a lot to do with it. Mort Sahl and Lenny Bruce were before my time. I remember some comedians but there were over my head as a kid: Bob Newhart, Alan King, Joey Bishop. I never "got" Richard Pryor but he obviously suffered from being compared to Bill Cosby who as a kid I thought was just hilarious. As a kid I also like Alan Sherman (not on there as far as I saw) a lot. Johnny Carson was very popular - biggest sellout in Vegas in his day (back when Vegas had BIG stars) but was he that funny? The ones I have seen do solo standup shows (live or on TV) that "killed" include (no particular order) Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, Joan Rivers (at her peak). I remember Freddie Prinze was very funny at his time (died young, too bad). I saw David Brenner in Vegas and he was way funnier than I expected. I liked George Carlin, but not when he was younger (hippy-dippy weatherman?) - but his last stuff was really good. I like seeing Andy Kaufman a lot more now than I did when he was "famous." Knowing his real life makes what he did much funnier. back then New comedians - none of them. There is actually a Sinbad HBO show where he is really funny - better than Jerry Seinfeld (never found his act even remotely funny). Dennis Miller is higher than Bill Maher - but they are both more commentators now than comedians. George Burns and Gracy Allen should have been higher - they were classic. I dont care for Ray Romano, Wanda Sykes, Jonathan Winters, Albert Brooks (at all), |
I saw a Sam Kinison show where I could not understand a single word he said all night long. At first we thought it was our seats so we moved but it was just bad.
If you recall he used to eat the microphone. In this case, he was just blew out the sound system and I guess they couldn't turn him down enough. Andrew Dice Clay? I "got" it, but it didn't get me. Richard Jeni is a weird story. He is kind of unknown but I guess he was very successful as a comedian, very highly paid (he could deliver night after night). He committed suicide a few years ago - had massive depression. |
I guess this is one of Richard Pryors more well-known bits. He reminds of modern day comedians (Dana Cook?). Its OK but I didnt laugh much.

Albert Brooks was born Albert Einstein .

I would put both Jeff Foxworthy and Bob Newhart in my top ten. They are both basically clean and inventive comedians. Any comedian, no matter how funny, who uses four letter words in every sentence belongs at the bottom of my list.

Not so funny
I just watched those Jim Carey and Richard Pryer clips did not laugh once I think Chris Rock is alot funnier then those guys hands down
