Default Meeting CMers in person

Have you ever met any of your fellow CMers in person ? If so ,were you surprised to find out there personalities were different or were you surprised to find out that they were the same ?

I met 51 people registered with CM on my last cruise .
For the most part they are CM lurkers .A few said they posted a few times .

I am planning to meet a CM regular (over 5000 posts) within the next few weeks .

Back in 98, even before CM was born, about 100 of us got together at the first ever "Creamsicle Bash" at the Marriott in Lauderdale....Boy did we have fun,and not a serial killer among us...many went on to become Cruisemates.

We had entertainment and good food, souvenirs, and best of all, great friends were made, in just one evening! Forever memories..

One of my functions (and labor of love) when I first came onboard as a CruiseMates staffer, was to put together our CruiseMates Group Cruise program, to do just that.... make it easy for CruiseMates to meet and cruise together.

Almost everytime we sail, we promote a get together in the embarkation city prior to the cruise, so both cruisers and folks in the local area can meet.

For our group, sailing tomorrow, I wasn't able to go in a day early, but the rest of the folks who were are getting together tonight.

By fluke, I haven't sailed out of Florida for some time, so haven't organized anything there recently. But will most assuredly do so the next time we cruise from there.

Many cruisemates have taken that lead and organized get togethers when others are sailing from their home cities, and that's GREAT.

Others have organized smaller gatherings, when they know a cruisemate is visiting their home city, even when no one is cruising.

These gatherings are all great because they build on the commraderie of the spirit of CruiseMates.

All I can say is that I was truly honored to attend the CM Dinner hosted by Ray and Helen in Orlando.

The only one I had personally met prior to Orlando was BeenieWeenie whom we met in Indiana in August and who as you know, drove all the way to Tennessee to be with me at Fran's wake, everyone there became like family. In fact it was a truly family atmosphere. I was indeed thrilled to meet so many of the folks with whom I had corresponded, some for years.

Yet they were only a fraction of so many others I want to meet in person. Actually I'd give my right arm to meet everyone! It may be a long long time before I'm ever able to cruise again (I think I need not explain) but that doesn't mean I won't drive to meet people. And remember, I live within 60 miles of one if not the number one tourist areas in the Southeast (excepting Florida of course) and I'm near major Interstates 26, 40 and 81 so if you're in the area either c'mon over or I'll come to meet you! When I go to Cleveland (probably now it will be in May) I hopefully will meet at least one other. Only time will tell.

But believe me, I truly love you all whether or not we agree on everything and it would be a pretty boring world if everyone did that anyway.

I say this from the heart. You are a far more wonderful bunch of people than you could ever imagine and I tell that to everyone I know.

Todd

My dear Watson, I met you several times, and wish every time you all would live closer.
Its always good to meet up with the Floridian cruisemates and last time more out of state cruisemates, which made the dinner very special.
All of them are awesome. Never regretted a dinner I been to.

Default Meeting CMers in Person

Yes, several years back, Keith and I drove to Long Beach to meet a CruiseMates group sailing the next day.

More recently, we flew to Florida for back-to-back sailings on the Century and the Liberty. We met a lolt of CruiseMates then!

If there's a CM dinner next year I plan on going. I would love to meet some of these fine folks like Trip, Mike M, Todd & Trudy just to name a few. Florida works fine for me!

I'll be there Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise!

Many people are reallly only now learning this but for those of you who don't know, it has nothing to do with rising water. George Washington once sent a message to one of his Colonels out in the field to come to him (I don't know exactly where the Colonel was but it was a long way from Washington. The Colonel responded, "I'll be there God willing and the Creek don't rise." What he was referring to were the Creek Indians that had a habit of periodically rising up against the settlers in which case, the Colonel would have had to remain with his troops. The Creek (originally known as the Muskogee) were mainly in South Carolina, Alabama and parts of Georgia).

And that, as Mr. Paul Harvey used to say, ".....is the rrrrrest of the story!"

Yes I have met Cruisemates, both individually and on a CM cruise and it was always a wonderful experience. Can't wait to do it again!
And Judy, don't forget driving to Huntington Beach to meet me for lunch during my short weekend visit a few years ago! Fond memories!

The first time I met any CMs in person was the first Let's Get Lei'd cruise in 2002. Since then I've cruised with some, gone to a central Florida get together, had the pleasure of meeting up with some CMs when they were in my area or I in theirs. It's great to spend time with such wonderful people!

Ah Yes! The lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I have had the pleasure of meeting lots of our "Mates" at the Central Florida dinners, and sailing with quite a number of you aboard "Century" and other ships over the years. What a GREAT bunch of people! You'd be very hard pressed to find a finer group of folks,,,,anywhere, and we're from all over the world! THANKS CruiseMates!

Larry and I also drove to LB to meet the "lucky" ones cruising r/t to Hawaii. Met Keith, Judy, Kuki and Steve (Y2C). It was nice to put a face with a name. I wish Cruisemates could get the cruiselines to sponsor a Meet & Greet like the other message board. Would be nice to meet more fellow CM.

Thanks to the CM forums I was able to find out one other CMer was cruising with us on the Legend in Jan 10. We made it a point to meet up and what a thrill it was for me. I met nlb and we have become chat friends here and on facebook. I would so love to meet more as I feel like I already know many personally from chatting. I am so hoping that the future will allow this to happen.

I do hope to meet some Cruisemates from NY and MA this spring and summer.

My first time meeting of Cruise Mates was on the "Glory B" cruise on Carnival Glory in September 2005. I took my beloved Patty on that cruise with me. I met so many wonderful CruiseMates. That is my all time favorite cruise to date.

On cold winter mornings In NH I would sit wrapped in a heavy robe reading CM. I always enjoyed reading Roller Donna's reviews and the adventures of CM's together on a cruise. The Central Florida Cruisers dinners always sounded fun to me. It had been a lifelong dream of mine to return to Lakeland to live. Finally the time came and I moved south. A move I never regretted. I love it here and Cruise Mates Dinners have been a large part of my social life. I nevermet a Cruise Mate I didn't like!! Great folks and lots of fun to be with.

I have met many of our Cruisemates family on CM cruises, visits and dinners. A few ran away screaming when they first met me but then realized that my wife keeps me on a short leash and then felt safe.

I wish I was on the Hawaii cruise right now but other "things" forced me to cancel. I'm looking forward to another CM cruise in the near future.

I'll have to tickle Kuki to get one going. The Allure, with our own Donna, is the only thing on the CM cruise list. BTW: He likes to be tickled.

Take care,
Mike

Have only met travelgalSue on that Legend crusie. She was with a group of square dancers and she was kind enough to invite hubby and myself to the party they were having. It was great to meet not just Sue and Homer but all of them.

Maybe some day I will get to meet more.

Ray and Helen are on the Hawaii cruise right now with CM. He usually plans the events. Put a bug in his ear when they return and have had a chance to rest up.

I posted a meet and greet, but no one wants to meet me

I've never met anyone from this board, but I've only been at this board for a few months. I know there are a few here from SW Ontario ... anyone up for a SW Ontario meeting????

I've met other cyber friends before, just not from this site.
