I saw the Diamonds performing on PBS this evening and remembered that we had seen them perform on a cruise ship three or fours ago. We also saw Frankie Avalon and a lot of other groups that I need to look up in my records. With all the ships today, I wonder how many of the singers fromthe 50's to the 70's are still performing? Which ones have you seen on a cruise? Oh yes, we did see Bowser fron Sha Na Na with his new group
Paul check out the website for the Malt Shop Cruise (among others) and you will see they are alive and well and performing on sold out full charter ships year round
this past October on the Carnival Liberty full charter Capital Jazz Super Cruise Jeffrey Osborne, lead singer of the great 70's group LTD, did a concert on the Lido deck at high noon at a football tailgate party..there were 3000 cruisers packed on deck singing along with Jeffrey on all of his hits and just rocking the boat..what made it special was the fact that the cruisers were multi-generational ...in my mind this reinforces the fact that the really great music was made in the 50's-70's time period and will be performed forever..this year Sly and The Family Stone will be performing so I may have flashbacks from my Woodstock experience
We too have seen several "big names" aboard ships, including "Bowser". My favorite, however, is Mark Preston, one of the original "Lettermen". He REALLY puts on a great show, and is such a nice person. I keep in touch with him via e-mail, and he keep me advised on his bookings.
We really enjoyed seeing The Nelsons (Ricky Nelson's sons), on the Oasis lst year.

Back in 1999, singer/actress Pamela Blake, perhaps best known for her starring role in Evita on Broadway, performed aboard MV Grand Princess in the Mediterranean. She was leaving the ship after my cruise, which was the last of the season.
Mathew and Gunnar Nelson did three performances last year when I cruised on the Oasis. Two in the main theater and one in the Aqua theater
They have a lot of charisma and they certainly have their father's voices.
They sang some of Ricky's songs as well as some of their own.

Holly Lipton who has been recording nearly 40 years appears on RCL cruise lines ,I'm told .
I thought Holly Lipton had been banned from cruise ships?
The Platters are performing on Seven Seas Voyager tomorrow. Of course, none of the original members are still part of the group.

Henry knows who she is , he made a posting about her back in August 2009
In 1974 she entertained at a bachelor party that I went to . I've been following her career since .I have her latest CD ,she is a cross between Liza Minelli and Bette Midler and married to the comedian Vic Arnell. She appears in concert in Florida ,Las Vegas and cruise ships .
Platters performed tonight for around 75 minutes; fantastic show. They then came to Voyager lounge and took tiurns performing for around another hour. A great experience. They have another show on Friday. It is nice being able to talk to them at dinner and in the lounges.

just for your information......i have never been banned from ships or any other venue that i have been privleged to perform.....i only joined this sight to say that.....so, thanks marc....smooth sailing pal, always, holly lipton
Christopher Allen Graves is a fantastic entertainer on Carnival's ships. His act "Singing With The Big Bands" is wonderful with tributes to Sammy Davis Jr and Frank Sinatra. He does a fantastic dance with Shirley Temple to "Bo Jangles" I have seen this show twice and it just never gets old for me. What a talent this man is.

No, you haven't been banned, I saw you on Seven Seas Navigator tonight. Still, you should have been banned for your actions on Seven Seas Mariner back in 2002.
Happy Sails,
Marc

Having just seen a John Denver special last night on PBS reminded me of a wonderful show we saw on a cruise (sorry, can't remember which one). A Californian named Jim Curry does a fantastic John Denver tribute show. Not only does he resemble Denver, but sounds like him, and part of the show is a projection of footage of the John Denver Sanctuary in Colorado, and anything to do with his songs...eagles, horses, mountains, country scenes, sunshine, etc.
It really was an uplifting show and gave me a renewed appreciation of the music of John Denver.
