Default Rock,Pop,Doo-Wop & Bowzer

I know alot of Cruisemates are 50's-60's music fans..on Tuesday March 15th at 7 pm on PBS..Bowzer from Sha NaNa and Ronnie Specter of the Ronettes will be doing a show featuring the best songs and groups from the late 50's and 60's..it's part of PBS annual fund raising drive

cutting all federal funding for PBS is part of the budget cut package that the U.S. House of Representatives passed

I will be taping it because I will be attending a concert at the House of Blues featuring Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings a group that sings songs from that era

what are your favorite groups from that era ?

Venice,

I grew up in the '50's and early '60s', and really loved Buddy Holly, both when he was with the Crickets and his shortened solo career....The Four Seasons....the Coasters....the Platters....a lot of the girl groups, and I won't list them here because I remember the songs, but not the particular group...Beechwood 4-5-7-8-9; Soldier Boy, He's So Fine, Mr. Postman....to name a few...I guess the Beach Boys, but they pretty much ended American rock and roll because the Britsh Invasion hit....Jan and Dean....oh, and who could forget the Everly Brothers....Dream, one of my all time favorites....that single guitar chord at the beginning of the song, and you automatically know what it is....and OK, here's a soul baring confession: I loved Mitch Miller and the Gang.....memories....

Thanks,

Sid..Mitch wascool and featured a young Leslie Uggams as one of the regulars which rub the sponsors of his show the wrong way..he also was awarded a Life Time Grammy in 2000 and was married to the same woman for 65 years...I'm surprise that no one has made a movie about his life

Thanks for the heads up Venice, I love all the 50's and 60's music, but especially the Do-Wop stuff!
Here's another heads up for slightly heavier music fans: on Saturday March 5th also on PBS there will be a special on Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO) on the beginnings of "Rock Theatre" If you've ever seen a TSO concert, you will not want to miss this show!

donna

(oops, maybe I should have said "for fans of slightly heavier music...")

I was born in 69 .... but I'd bet I could challenge some of you on a name that tune!

I grew up listening to that music as there was ALWAYS music playing in our house tuned to the local oldies station.

My dad also sang in a rock n roll band. My fondes memories of being a little girl are being perched on a speaker listening to the band sing.

I wish my hubby could dance ... I could if I had the right partner (miss you dad!). My parents won every 50/60s dance contest they ever participated in on a cruise ship!

Jon "Bowzer" Bauman - Sha Naa Naa fame - got booed and many walked out of the theater on our Westerdam cruise in 2001. He got a little too friendly with the females passengers participating on stage.
