Default I'm baaaaaaack! Didja miss me?

All, in all we had a great trip on Eurodam. That being said, I'm not sure that HAL is the line for us. I'm looking forward to trying Celebrity next to see if its a better fit.

I'll put together a trip report soon. Is there a specific place to post/format to use?

Hope everyone had a great week, and I'm off to catch up on posts.

there is a cruise reviews setion, at the top of the page in the middle. I will let you know that sometimes it can take a couple of weeks for it to be posted as Paul is the one that has to review and post after you submit.

You can always post a review here or in the HAL section.

I'd say its good to be back; but I'd rather be basking in the sunshine on HMC.

Thanks Nancy; I have bits and pieces of my review; which I will post soon. Just curious; I can say what I want if I post it here or in the HAL section; but Paul may sensor what I post as a trip review?

Glad you had a good time but I'm sorry you had to come back. Coming back to reality is the difficult part. Maybe you can start planning your next one. Look forward to your review.

no he does not really censure the review unless you are writing something really naughty. which I am sure you would not do. He really just makes sure it conforms to terms of the site. He definitely would not post it if you have complaints as the site does want honest reviews.

Welcome back Queen, I know how hard it is to come home to the cold after a wonderful tropical cruise!
I'll check out your review, and you can check out my review on Cuba here on this board!

Unless you are using some really filthy language you can say whatever you like in the reviews, and they will be posted.

The advantage of having it in Member's Reviews, is that it is archived easily for future users.

Hi Q of O, I liked your review ! I was very impressed that your family won the Family Scavenger Hunt !

I do wonder if you asked the Room Steward to do a better job in your cabin?

IMHO, I think you and your family should try Princess or Carnival for your next cruise. Both have great children's programs. I've seen people post that the kid's didn't want to leave!

Queen, I think that you and your family would love the Freedom class royal ships. There is plenty of fun for people of all ages.

Now the Oasis and the Allure have a bit more excitment, but it's good to start with a Freedom class ship and the price will probably be better.

No, we never mentioned it to the Room Steward, but I'm sure if we had, it would have improved. It certainly wasn't something that ruined my trip, just more of an observation. I still rated him with a "9" because I know how important the ratings are to them. I will stress that he was ALWAYS courteous, and when we did ask for something it was always handled. I guess I just have a hard time saying to someone that their cleaning is not up to par. I can't remember if I mentioned the broken glass in my review or not, but one of the bathroom glasses had a crack in it. I moved it to the counter, and it was place back. I then moved it to the shelf below, and it was placed back. Finally, I told him the glass had a crack in it, and it was taken away.

We have cruised with Princess, and found we were too young for the ship (mind you - that was 10 years ago!). We sailed Carnival last year, and while the kids had a blast, I found the service levels to be really lacking.

DANG - I guess I should have tried to use a few expletives, unfortunately I had none for HAL. I probably could have used a few words to describe the security agent who put my 3 year old through a detailed security check. Its a good thing DH was there or I would have lost it.

Thanks Donna! I will! We actually wanted to go to CUBA last week [wouldn't that have been funny if we ended up at the same resort! But, we got a much better deal on HAL (it would have costed us another $1000 to go to Cuba].

Oh, I forgot to cover the weather. The weather was mostly great. It was warm, but not tooo warm. It was always comfortable outside, but if it were a littel warmer, the pool water might have been nicer. We had rain in San Juan. Other than that the weather was great. We had the best weather at HMC. And the bonus, while we were away, we missed the (hopefully) last blizzard of the year.

Manuel, I have been wanting to try a Freedom class ship for a while now. We just have been getting better deals elsewhere. DH and I do love Royal Carribean and it is probably the best fit for our lifestyle. Unfortunately, Royal gives no breaks on pricing for 3rd/4th PAX when they are children. It makes no sense to me that I should pay full price for my child as I would if I were taking another adult. I know that the cruiselines make more money of adults than children, but still. The reason we chose HAL for this cruise is because of their 3/4 pax sails for $99 promotion. We could not resist! I keep watching Royal for specials.

One thing i forgot to mention was the compliance to the dress code on HAL.

From what I had read on-line, I thought DH would be out-of-place if he didnt wear a tux. I saw less than 5 tuxes on formal night. Granted, we were the early seating, and it may have been more formal for the late seating. Most men had a on a light sport coat or light suit. In his dark (and well-tailored) suit, I thought DH was the best dressed guy in the MDR.

I also thought we were easily the best dressed family on the smart casual nights. In fact, our dress on the smart-casual nights was probably better than some on the formal nights.

On one smart casual night, the woman beside us had on a faded white t-shirt and tight peach capri pants. Her husband wore jeans and a grey sweatshit. This wasn't the norm - just a message that anything goes on smart casual night.

I'm not looking to start a dress-code debate (AGAIN) just mentioning this for anyone who is considering HAL but afraid the ship might be too formal for them.

another thing I forgot to post here is how much we all loved the birthday/anniversary song which they sing in the MDR. We all can't stop singing it (making up our own words of course!).

On the last night of the MCD (which we enjoyed!); my daughter and I got trapped in the circle of stewards, and it was thrill to see up close the smiles on their faces as they sang in their native language; matched only by the smile on my daughter's face as she thoroughly enjoyed the performance!

A couple of more things come to mind!

Norovirus - we were on a "watch" for an outbreak. Apparently, Eurodam has a perfect record, as do only 2 ships which sail from FLL. For the first 3 days, there were many alerts for hand-washing, and upon entering the lido, there was a steward there dispensing hand sanitizer to all who entered. Self-serve drink stations and self-serve buffet were also off limits. Everything was served by the staff. I spent the first few days watching my kids like a hawk and bathing them in hand sanitizer [or hand assitizer as my 3 yo calls it]

Gratuities - this was the MOST pleasant cruising experience were "Gratuities" were not shoved down my throat. Every other sailing, there is a CD or someone shouting TIP, TIP, TIP everywhere you go. The auto-tips or envelopes are discussed at lenght on most lines. But on HAL - this was never mentioned. On the second last day, DH asked me how tips were handled, because we had no idea. We had to go to guest relations to find out. I was so pleased not to be guilted into a "you must tip". Of course, we do always tip, but for me, it adds a "guilt" element to the trip, like I should feel guilty for being well-off and must tip, because the crew needs the tips to survive. There was none of that on HAL. On the last night, during the MCD, the singer made an announcement that we should show our appreciation for the dining staff. I thought to myself "here it comes, tip, tip, tip tip tip". But now, all she wanted was a round of applause. We did the auto recommended tips and even gave and extra cash to our dining room steward who we really thought was outstanding. He clearly did not feel comfortable taking the money, but was very grateful.
