Default Article on the legendary Ken Venturi

I wrote an article about Ken Venturi that went up on our Home Page today...

Even if you know nothing about golf, I recommend reading the story. I know I couldn't do his life justice. But his is a great story of success on a number of levels, tough times, problems, and strength to recover from adversity several times.

There's several pictures of the Venturis in my photo gallery

I think his life would make a great movie! He does have a book out, called Up & Down; My 60years in golf, if the article wets anyone's appetite to know more.

Kuki,

Excellent article and I would love to hear Ken's stories firsthand.

Take care,
Mike

Kuki:

This is a great story and I was amazed to hear Ken was on your cruise when I followed your blog. While I'm too young to remember him playing I'll never forget the years he did commentary on CBS. I wept buckets when he retired from TV as I knew no one could ever take his place. I remember him telling the story once of how cruel his father was - and how he told Ken he would never amount to anything being a golfer. How wrong he was. Ken has proven to be a wonderful person who has lead an interesting life. I wish him and his lovely wife every happiness. You have also made me want to read his book!

Thanks for telling his story.

NYK

Thanks NYK... glad you enjoyed the article.

I don't recall Ken telling that story about his father. But he did tell us the story about right after he won the U.S. Open, his father told him.... Now you have to win it again, to prove it wasn't a fluke.
