We are very pleased to be asked to any special parties or be invited to dine with an officer, sad? maybe but it makes us feel special!

Even I have been at a Captain's Cocktail party as a sop by Customer Services Manager for all the Cabin Door issues (10 sets of keys and counting - a very long, boring story). Cocktails were nice - the company so ....... yawn.

But JTD and Manuel you weren't there.

Would I go again - no.

I agree with Dhill - I view it as a status thing - just not me.

Any chance they could just send the cocktails to my cabin next time?

BTW JTD I was one of the few ladies wearing a dress denim was very common.

Odd about the denim...the general welcome party is usually on a formal night if the ship has one, if not I suppose it doesn't matter. The welcome party varies from ship to ship, P&O a few words from Capt. a couple of drinks if you can grab them ...but Celebrity was over an hour, hot & cold buffet, live band unlimited drinks easily obtained...a rather nice Chardonnay as I recall. The private invitation only ones on P&O have nibbles & more generous drinks.

JTD

From memory it was on the 3rd(?) night of the HAL cruise - it was scheduled to last a couple of hours - plenty of alcohol - I escaped after 1 hour.

I was surprised by the casual dress - I made an effort - the social hostess was in formal garb but def no cocktail dresses.

Anyway if I ever receive another invite can I RSVP - please send cocktails to my cabin?

Well, we seem to have clearly established that some ships' officers are fun to be with, interesting and congenial. Others are stiffs.

Not much new there.

We like to go to lunches, dinners, parties, etc. with officers because more of them are interesting than not, and they always buy the wine!

Perhaps the PTB lurk at Cruisemates, and flagged you as a person of interest who would be on that sailing?
