Default How old were you when you saw your first professional sporting event?

Mine was baseball in 1956 (I was nine) when we took the train to Cincinatti and watched the Reds. I forget who they were playing but I remember that Ted "Big Klu" Kluszewski hit a homer. I later was in attendance at Shea Stadium when Seaver got his 200th strikeout. Both events while decades apart was before you had to mortgage your home to go to a professional baseball game and have a coke and a hotdog.

To see a pro football game today you have to morgage both your house and your summer cottage (if you have one), especially in Dallas.

Default How Old were You When You Saw Youjr First PRofessional Sporting Event

The only professional sporting event I have ever been to was several years back when I went to a figure skating event at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles. I have never attended a Laker game, baseball, football, hockey, or car event.

When I was eleven I took the mass transit, alone, to Wrigley Field and got a bleacher seat.

I think about 6, my Dad was a big Yankee's fan and I know we went to some games while I was a kid. And we went a couple times to Knicks games in the old Gardens.

My Dad took me to a Red Sox game as a child. That was the first and only time I have ever been to a sporting event.

A bunch of my Uncles (and even one Aunt) were big into stock car racing. I was at the dirt tracks earlier than I can remember, and even got to ride in the cars when mom wasn't looking. I just remember really loud engines, and crappy upholstery jobs, and no key. They were a lot closer to moonshiners than big time racers, but they did race at Daytona a time or 2.

Other than that I watched the Braves lose to the Pirates when I was about 12.

My stepdad took us to a race in SEdalia, MO when I was younger. I couldn't tell you what kind of vehicle they were, but I'm sure they were something he couldn't have or was too scared to drive

I also went to a Pro Football and Baseball game in KC or St louis when I was younger too, we were under an overhang so all we heard was echo and the drunkards around us being stupid. needless to say I wasn't impressed.

I have been to the Predators game a time or two...lots of fun and several Nashville Kats game (arena football) too bad the KAts are no longer

Ice shows and Circuses are AWESOME though! I've been to several of each in various cities and never been disappointed

My friends father was the sports editor for the Boston Herald. We had tickets to many professional sports events over the years. We went to see the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins many times at the old Boston Garden. He also got us tickets to see the Harlem Globe Trotters and Ice Capades and the Ringling Brothers Circus. We were in high school back then. We used to take the train to North Station. I continued going to Celtics games even after high school.

I held season tickets for the first 10 seasons, or so, of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Never could afford professional sports before that,,,,or after that! We had a very good time going to all those games though. I remember their first win, on the road against the New Orleans Saints, well into their second season, and then another win at home, the next week against St. Louis! !

"SKY"

Oh yea,,,I forgot what the question was. I was 34 years old at the time!

My first professional sporting event was when I was six and we went to a Minnesota Twins game. I was in awe of the size of the old Metropolitan Stadium and to actually see the players that I had only heard on the radio and rarely saw on TV. I was a farm boy and the Twins games were always on the barn radio during milking.

In the 70's I had a the "honor" of being at the lowest attended Twins game. 1,960 people showed on a cold and drizzly April day. It was great. We paid a couple of dollars for nosebleed seats and then sat right behind the dugout.

Since then I've been to hundreds of Twins games and a large number of Vikings, North Stars (hockey) (before they moved to Dallas many years ago), but I have not been to a Minnesota Timberwolves basketball game or Minnesota Wild hockey game.

Take care,
Mike

My parents came to the US as poor Immigrants, so I did not get to see professional sports untill I did it on my own.
When I was stationed at Ft. Meade, Md. I went to see the Baltimore Orioles a few times because they let GI's in for free.

My first was when I was about 12, and it was also a Cincinnati Reds game! I got to see Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan and Jose Concepcion _ "The Big Red Machine"! Truly memorable. My husband and I went to see the Bengals play while still in college, his parent's season tickets while they were on a cruise. That was the last year they made it to the Super Bowl - Esiason was the QB, and Ickey Woods was shuffling! Went back the next fall to the home opener and saw the last shuffle. Ickey was injured on the next series and never was the same. That was they year they made all the rule changes about end-zone celebrations, so he went behind the home bench after his touchdown. Just took our son to see the Bengals last Dec. 26th...it was all he asked for for Christmas! Luckily, it was their only decent game of the season!! It was worth the trip from Virginia!
