Aiden and I were sitting on the bed, watching cartoons..the bed started to shake...I said, Aiden please stop shaking the bed,[he always does this] and he said, I'm not...
I went into the kitchen turned on the tv,and saw that there was an earthquake in Virginia.....!! They said the time there was approx 1:51..I felt it shake at approx 2:05...an aftershock....Our local news is saying, aftershocks were felt all around the area.
They said many buildings have been evacuated in DC....

Hearing on te 4:00 pm news, there has been some damage. Logan Aiport is taking all the international flights that NYC & Dc are not allowing at the moment.They say Boston cannot accept anymore, just domestic flights.

I've got a cousin that lives right outside of DC. Sent her a message on Facebook but I think she's in Oregon at the moment. Hopefully no damage at her house.

We did not feel anything here .However ,around the corner from us people were evacuated . We are fortunate to have a police station about 50 feet from our house .

Here in suburban DC, we felt it in no uncertain terms. It was election day and Terry is an election official--happened to be assigned to the county building counting absentee ballots. They evacuated the building for a half hour, no big deal. I was downstairs in my office, knew what it was right away, heard glass tinkle someplace in the house, but can't find anything broken yet.
Of course, DC being historically a town full of wusses, everybody headed home as soon as the buildings downtown were evacuated, creating a horrific early rush hour. There was some damage to the spires at the National Cathedral, which is sad, and they claim to have found cracks in the Washington Monument, so it will be closed probably for the rest of tourist season.
But overall, no biggie.

Felt it here in Virginia Beach. I was chaperoning HS Band camp, but didn't realize it was an earthquake until one of the parents called to see if we were all OK. You see, they are building a new road just behind the HS, and the navy jets were flying low and heavy all yesterday afternoon, so we just thought they were causing some extra vibrations! They did evacuate most building at our Town Center and in downtown Norfolk.

Thank you for saying that when I heard people evacuated buildings and went home for a 5.9 quake I wanted to call them wussies. I probably would stop working for about 10 minutes to discuss it will co worker. But then I would go back to my day. Here is a California Quake map.

Henry, they are probably pulling the Navy ships out early this morning. No water or bread in the stores. People don't take hurricanes all that seriously here, but this one actually has a lot of us scared! If they call for evacuations here in Tidewater, it's actually probably too late to get out.
