Default We were in the San Diego Blackout yesterday

We are staying in our Encinitas home, and the power went out yesterday afternoon. What was weird is that we were a mile from home at a firends and all the neighbors came out and asked "is your power out?"

Then we went home, and the same thing... it was out as far as you could see. We started thinking about driving back to Phoenix, but we couldn't get any gas.

We went to one gas station and there were very angry people there saying they had been there for hours because their tanks were dry but they could get any gas. I mean it felt more than a little "dangerous."

We were told on emergency radio that we might not get power back until this afternoon or maybe even Saturday. But it did come back on about 10:00 Thurs. night.

Let me tell you - if you ever get stuck in something like this it could quickly devolve into something like chaos. I have to say it is a little surprising more of the country is not talking about it.

I have been watching this situation on the news, as well as the terror threat. It just goes to show how exposed we are. Who would have thought that one man could disrupt so many people's lives.

I hope someone will take this as a learning lesson on how not to let it happen again.

I was in Florida at the time, but our city in Ct. wend four days without power.
When we came back we had to dump all the food the we had left in our refregirator/freezer.

It's not easy being without power.

Its amazing how people and what we depend on has changed over the years! Just think about when Lewis and Clark came to the Nothwest for the first time and what they had to do to survive! And now people are so dependent on electricity and gas and grocier stores.Ill bet 95% of the people could not survie the conditions that the pioneers went thru.

Make that 99.9%. Some people could not survive without their Cell phones.

It does make you think. Fortunately we had flashlights and a battery-powered radio a neighbor lent to us.

But without that it would have been very boring. he went to bed at 8:30 (as many people did in the olden days).

They asked us to try to stay off our cellphones (which were working, but not the regular phone service) so the network would be clear for emergency workers.
Of course, with cells as the only thing working you heard people on cell phone calls everywhere you went.
