Ok, so I'm eyeballing 2 different cruises for this year and can't decide whether to go with a good friend of mine who gets seasick -lol ...OR Look for a cruisemate on this site who doesn't get seasick. What would YOU do??

I rather go with a friend than a stranger .Just because a person may get seasick on one cruise it does not mean it will happen always .In addition ,there are so many preventative products such as Bonine ,Ginger ,etc .

Agree - don't let the cruiseline set you up with a roommate -I've heard horror stories about that!

Go with the "devil you know" - besides, she might not get sick this time.

Give your friend some Bonine and take them. I agree it's better to go with someone you know than someone you don't.

Take care,
Mike

How many times has the friend cruised and gotten seasick? If more than once, the friend likes cruising.

I would go with your friend, but do pick out a ship that is fairly new, the newer ones don't move around as much. That way, she may not even feel it to get sick.

What ships are you thinking about?

With the freind definitely. She can go to the doctor for the patch for seasickness, or take one of the otc pills.

I too, say go with the friend, and run to Walgreens and get a 100 count bottle of Meclizine. I'll bet she'll do GREAT if you do that, and you won't have to worry about "bunking" with a stranger!

Definitely, go with your friend. There are so many sea sickness remedies out there now.

You guys are probably right..Only problem with her is that she HATES taking pills and I know I won't be able to get her to take a pill. I can slap a patch on her or get her those wrist band things (do those really work?). I'm looking at the Carnival Magic and the Triumph. One new ship, one old. I felt pretty smooth sailing on the Triumph but then again waves rock me to sleep so what do I know?? lol

This girl has gotten seasick on me twice. But I have only been on a boat with her twice. First time we were just on a very small boat (4 person boat with oars and a motor on the back). He (Nacho) took us for a ride to the bay in Akumal, Mexico to snorkel and the waves were a bit rough; we were bouncing a lot. She started acting very very oddd. She refused to tell me what was wrong (ex-military and tough ya know..). I was having a grand time fishing off the side of the boat while apparently she was trying not to get sick. Finally, we get in to snorkel @ the bay and she pops us and says "no need to feed the fish, already fed em." EWWWW Right??? I told her I reallly did NOT need to know that. lol

Snorklr:

Small boats and cruise ships are different for seasickness. My wife becomes ill in small boats if it is a bit rough but has no problem on a cruise.

If your friend is truly prone to seasickness I would stay away from the wrist bands. Yes, there are people who swear by them but in actual medical studies they are no more effective than a placebo. The scopolamine patch is effective but is also a prescription and can have some side effects such as dry mouth, dizziness and drowsiness. She would have to see her doctor to obtain them.

Ask her if she wants to go and see if she's willing to give it a shot. I doubt she'll get sick on board and just stay away from small boats.

Take care,
Mike

I have sailed the Triumph twice and we docked next to the Magic a couple of days ago... I would choose the Magic. It is an amazing looking ship with all sorts of cool looking water features. Lots of balconies.... gorgeous on the outside.
