Default Countertops

After much back and forth from granite, quartz & Corian I think I have decided on the Corian. My mind is spinning!

Granite also. Safe for hot pots, also.

I do like the way the granite looks but was put off with the radon factor as well as few other things. There were pro's and con's with all three...I think the corian fit our lifesyle the best.

If you are ever asked by Perry Grant what kind of countertops you have, whatever they are, answer granite....it will save some good natured ribbing......just saying.

If I had a choice of those 3 I would chose the Corian myself. I also think that it depends on your house, some just don't need granite or quartz.

We will hopefullu be redoing our kitchen counter this year and since we have a simple house we are going with tile, just need to find the right one.

If you watch any of the home shows on tv, I swear the industry, and, the hosts make you feel if you don't have/want granite, or stainless steel appliances, you are off your rocker.

What works for your lifetyle, is the best choice....

With all the choices these days it’s hard to even pick white paint. Now that D/H is retiring in June he’s decided he wants to make some home improvements. We have a very small bathroom so it looks like we will be gutting it and knocking down a wall to make it bigger. I can’t even imagine how crazy I’ll be trying to pick out all new bathroom vanity, tiles and so forth. I was the one who told him he needs to get a hobby little did I know it was going to be the house!

I agree with you Trip,
I watch a lot of HGTV, mosty House Hunters, and they almost always have to have the granite countertops and SS appliances. At some point, these too will have a dated look. There will always be something new comming...

Robin..............we're in the cabinet business......the only thing I can say about Corian is that it scratches & breaks easily & stains.........& doesn't sand out as easy as they say.....

When I built this house we had the refrigerator that was "camouflaged" to look like a cabinet. That was fine for a while but it limited me in what size and type of refrigerator I could buy when the old one bit the dust. I'll just say it isn't camouflaged anymore.

I did go with the stainless steel fridge and stove and I REALLY regret the fridge. The type of stainless is a PIA to keep looking good. Any little hand print, water splash or other mark stands out like a sore thumb and it takes quite a bit of polishing to get it clean. The water marks, from the water dispenser cannot be removed. Grandkids can really make a mess.

The stove on the other hand is a different type of stainless and is very easy to clean and maintain. However, I greatly regret going with my wife's desire to have a ceramic top stove. I HATE IT!!!! Poor heat control, hard to clean, can't use cast iron and any small mark stands out like a sore thumb.

I want my old gas stove with cast iron burners back.

I haven't gone over to granite yet. My counter tops are still in great shape and I can never justify replacement unless something is worn or so outdated that it is an embarrassment. I don't think I could keep an Avocado Green fridge, even if it was still working.

The granite and stainless steel trend will probably go the way of Harvest Gold and Formica. Then again Formica is coming back.

Take care,
Mike

I don’t think it breaks as easy as granite although. I have a few family/friends that have chipped their granitite fairly easy. My neighbor swears by the Corian as hers is 19 years old and still looks great and she has 4 kids and loves to cook and bake as well as my sister who has a very busy kitchen. Like I mentioned earlier there’s pro’s and con’s to all of them and I think the Corian fit’s us better. Thanks however for your view.
Mike... stainless steel would make me more crazy than I already am!

When I had to a new fridge last summe, we ended up getting all new appliances and got something that looks like stainless, but isn't, but cleans well and doesn't show the fingerprints...I love the stove/oven, nice large with big cast iron grates with a middle long burner which is great for cooking pancakes :-)

As for the Corian, I have never had it break or chip and it wears great. Had Corian in another kitchen, so have had it for a dozen years or more and very happy with it.
