Default Thank You All For Your Concern!

Well, having the computer go Haywire, I've finally after three hours got something to work.

My Joey Chitwood routine just won't cut it I'm afraid. Now I know lot of you have no idea who Joey Chitwood was but suffice it to say he did auto thrill shows without tearing up cars. I did a hell of a thrill show except................ (a) there was no one around to watch it and (b) I don't remember a damned thing about it, not to mention that car's totaled.

I had left Clinton TN around 2:45 Monday afternoon and was getting ready to turn onot I-75 when I became confused. (I know a lot of you are thinking, "Yeah, but what's different about that?"

I crossed over 75 and just kept driving! I kept going up big Clinch Mountain. Never been up there, have no idea where I was going but I knew I was getting into trouble with what little mental acuity I have left. I started having increasing problems controlling the car and couldn't understand why.

At some point, everything went blank. I woke up against a group of trees and I knew the car was torn up but I was at about a 40 degree angle down toward the right side. I called DeAnna, no more got out what had happened and I was out again like a light. I know not whether DeAnna told them I was retired "off the job" or they figured it out when they got to the car but the care and courtesy were literally unparalleled. I spent almost 30 years on the job and I saw nothing to that extent.

From the appearance of photos I saw later, it didn't look too bad. That is until I saw the truth the next day. I hadn't driven off the road, I'd actually gone right off the mountain down a cliff about 55 to 60 feet. I didn't realize it at the time but the only thing holding me was basically a three inch sapling with a little support from a bit larger tree. Trouble was, the car was nose down against the sapling with the larger tree offering little support. Below that sapling was a straight drop down another 40 to 45 feet to the bottom of a ravine.

Those boys in both Clinton and Union County rolled everything. It took them twenty to twenty-five minutes to even spot me. Now it's raining and these guys are sliding down this cliff to the car. They couldn't get me out on a backboard for fear if I slid on it or it slipped on them everyone would have gone over the ravin; me, the car and the rescures. No one could not believe the car had not flipped multiple times. Talk about professional courtesy, A Tennessee State Trooper by the name of I think Wayne Cole, in his spotless pressed uniform, slid down that embankment because he noiced that because my car window was three quarters open, the rain was hitting me directly in my face. That officer held onto a tree while holding his campaign hat over my head so it wouldn't rain on my face!!! By the time they had me extricated and in the crash truck, my sugar was 31. Following two doses of D-50 plus two sandwiches and two sodas at the hospital, they had got it up to 61.

DeAnna and I spent yesterday going around saying thank-you's and making an "appropriate" gift (those of you who are retired LEO's will understand). Had it not been for DeAnna, I wouldn't be on my Epic Cruise this weekend.

Finally, I am so very truly Blessed beyond belief at your Prayers and Support. I love each of you more than you could ever know.

Love,

Todd, it so good to read your post at least it is because you are doing so well. The story of what happened is just a bit to scary. God sure had his angels watching over you. He must have something mighty important for you to do.

Trip, you are in for a real treat beyond just being on a cruise ship. Have fun with Ray and Todd. I hope the crew know what they are in for. :-)

I love stories like this with happy endings.

Phyll

I know who Joey Chitwood is! Just so glad to see you post and that you are doing ok. What a wild ride that sounded like, even if you don't remember it! Please take care of yourself so you can have a wonderful time on the Todd & Ray show cruise. Hugs to you and I will keep praying that you stay healthy.

The lengths some people will go to, just to get a little bit of attention

But in all seriousness, thank goodness for your Guardian Angel, and the helping hand from Mother Nature in putting those trees there & making them strong enough to support you.

It seems a miracle that you are already back posting messages, but then again we all know what a strong person you are.

Have a fantastic cruise, but please NO waterskiing, cliff diving, or swimming with the sharks !!

Todd, I used to go the "Chitwood" show at the Indiana State Fair, many years ago. Sounds like you did a pretty good impersonation of him!
Sure glad you got out of that O.K. Take good care of yourself, and have a GREAT time on the ship with Ray. I expect you to keep him out of trouble too. We all know how he loves to dance on the tables and raise hell. Sure wish the lovely Mrs. Jones (Vita) and I could join you, but perhaps next time.

Todd, your number simply wasn't up! Your guardian angel was working overtime.

I'm so glad to hear that you're home and feeling better. Please take care of yourself - especially while you're on the cruise. I want to read good stories about your escapades with Ray, not bad ones!

Ya know, we all love a good adventure story, but not so much when it's scary, in the first person, and written by somebody we care about.

Have an UNEVENTFUL cruise!!

Well what can i say? I will be picking up Todd at Sanford International Airport about 1:20 PM tomorrow. Hope he is walking condition because he is too big for me to lift!!!!

Just have to get a trailer attached to my scooter. No not really.

The weather forecast is warm and no rain or maybe 10%. Need more but my grass is green.

See you tomorrow Todd.
