Default Famous co-workers

Did you ever work with anyone who became famous later in life ?

Many years ago I had a part-time job while in college and worked with a guy who believed he would one day be famous .

On my last day of working he gave me his autograph which I still have .

He is George Shea . What ,you have never heard of him ? He is the emcee at the annual Nathand hotdog eating contest in Coney Island .

Jay Tavarre is an actor that will be appearing in a movie later this year that will likely be a blockbuster .However ,he is virtually unknown outside of the acting community . Due to all the publicity that the hot dog eating contest gets ,most people know who Shea is .

Henry...c'mon...more would know Joey Chestnut, the contest winner....the emcee... doubtful. Like I said, in your area, his name might roll off the tongue...in podunk, not so much...

Babe Ruth
Willie Mays
Elizabeth Taylor
George Shea...Im not sure about that one.

I met :
Al Gore at a play in Las Vegas...sat next to him and Tipper Gore...He was super nice.

I also was in Cher's house while my friend put in a new floor for her. She was also very nice.

But I never worked with anyone famous.

Infamous only...My supervisor at BCBST was the wife of Brent Marsh of the "Tri-State Crematory" fame in Noble, GA where bodies were found not to be cremated. 339 bodies were buried, stacked in the storage shed or left in the woods. Families received concrete dust instead of cremated remains.

You can imagine my discomfort when after the trial and I had to tell her that I was called for jury duty. She said" I don't think they will call me anytime soon".

Well, because I spent decades writing, producing and directing film and video, I worked with tons of people who were already famous, but I was only involved with them on a project-by-project basis. Everybody from Sonny & Cher to Lorne Greene to Jimmy Stewart to Bill Cosby to Willard Scott to Arthur Godfrey to Edward James Olmos to Andrea Mitchell. Plus a long list of others, half of whom I've forgotten. Of course I've also worked with many journeymen in the business whose names are unknown, both in front of and behind the cameras, people I respect immensely. There are many talented people--especially voiceover performers--whose names you wouldn't know from Adam, but whose voices you know very well. I don't know if people like that are considered famous or not, and the fact is it doesn't matter very much. The checks clear either way.

Most famous people I encountered were perfectly normal folks, and preferred to be treated that way. I enjoyed working with most of them.

I never heard of the guy who emcees the Nathan's debacle, nor do I know the names of any who participate in it. The other week WRC, the NBC O&O here in town, ran a short clip of the gluttony. When it ended, Jim Vance, the longtime news anchor at the station said, "When I buy my own TV station I'm gonna ban that kind of garbage from ever getting on the air. Disgusting." Jim has been on the air there for 40 years or so, and he pretty much gets to say what he wants. In this case, I think he has a point.

I never worked with anybody who became famous but Sonja Ames, the daughter of Ed Ames was in my sunday school class and Petty Parks, the daughter of Bert Parks, was in my bunk at camp. Both girls were really "down to earth". You would never know that their fathers' were famous.

The closest I have come to working with someone famous is..I worked with Roseanne Barrs Aunt Dorothy. I was actually her boss. I have to say that when she told me who she was, there was no refuting it because this lady looks EXACTLY like Roseanne! She laughs like her too..But this lady was so very nice. Made me ice cream cakes on my birthday every year. Very kind and generous to all. She had Roseanne's clippings all over her walls but said that once Roseanne became famous, her calls to her were not returned and that the family rarely heard from her anymore. That was kinda sad.

That is sad to hear people forget their roots when they become famous

I went to high school and played sports with Matt Keough. Matt went on to major league baseball and played with and was in the starting rotation for the Oakland A's. Also met his dad Marty Keough who also played ML baseball.
