Default Venice sailaway views could change

I had the good fortune to realize a dream, when we sailed from Venice last year on the Magic. Visually stunning, and more beautiful then I had imagined, I was riveted, by the views...According to this article, the possibility is there, that, the transit could be changed...I remember watching a tv show, taped at a villa right on the water. The owner was saying how everybody just hated the impact the ships were makining on the environment, though some in the article dispute that. The ship was so close, it amazed the interviewer.

This reminds me of a few years back, where locals had problems with cruiseships in Alaska. On the other hand, many depend on these ships for a living, kind of a catch 22...

Tourists have an impact wherever and however they travel.

It does tend to boost their local economy, so they do need the tourists.

Very interesting and what a problem. They need tourism to survive yet it could be harmful to the city. I hope they find a solution.

What the article is saying is protestors are campaigning to have the ships stop using the grand canal to enter & exit Venice. And the Government is thinking of another route. It does not state the ships will leave Venice.

Trip is pointing our that pax could lose one of the most spectacular sites into & exiting a port in the world. It is breath taking. The ship is the tallest thing around and you have a birdseye view of all the sites Venice has too offer.

For those wanting to see it, I am sure a video can be found on utube.

Venice is one of the most beautiful places to sail in or out of. This summer, the Carnival Breeze, spent two days in Venice and we had perfect weather and it was a spectacular entrance and exit down the canal.

I do see the local's perspective though. When we were on the Giudecca side of the canal and a Princess ship came sailing in. It was BIG and somewhat loud and close. We could easily see the faces of the passengers. The music that was playing from the ship was the most "annoying" along with the announcements, from what I assume was the CD, on what they were seeing. I can understand why people would not like that.

I hope they don't reroute the ships but the ships should try to enter as "quietly" as possible.

Using the Concordia disaster as a reason is, IMO, ridiculous.

Take care,
Mike
