Default Incredible Storm Video From Staten Island

This looks like Japan, after the Tsunami...700,000 ton ship, on the street!

Ilived on Staten Island when I first moved to New York. Staten Island, Manhattan (especially lower Manhattan) and Brooklyn were my "stomping" grounds. Therefore I'm far more aware as to what has occurred and the depth of the misery currently being experienced than those who have neither visited New York or who are not themselves residents.

The devastation is mind boggling. The current fire that has already consumed over fifty homes in Queens is just one example. Some 7 or 8 million people have no power. Virtually all of the Battery is dark. There are no realistic ways to even get into or out of Manhattan. All of the tunnels including the subways are flooded. Most of the bridges are still closed. These handle millions of people every single day. It will be an awfully long time before life truly returns to normal. Even my niece who on Staten Island has never lost power (except for short periods of work, maintenance, etc.) in 41 years; even after last year's horrific hurricane. The storm surge which they thought for a short term might not be that severe turned out to be much higher than even the highest forecasted crests.

Please include in your prayers and add to your contribution list (whether it be financially or in any other meaningful regard) all those who have lost everything.

One last thing. Gov. Christie ordered the evacuation of Atlantic City. The city's Mayor on the other hand, said it wasn't necessary. As a result of the Mayor's comments, thousands are today having to be rescued, therefore needlessly endangering the lives of those being rescued as well as the rescuers. No one yet knows how many, if anyone, lost their lives as a result of those Mayoral comments. Whomever that Mayor is, they should hang him/her from a yardarm and I don't care what party to which the person belongs. Along the same line just to show State and Federal governments can and must work together even if they're of varying political affiliations was exhibited by Gov. Christie and the President when he said that he has been in contact with the President and the President has immediately authorized and is expediting every single one of the Governor's requests.
