Default Sad day for Twinkie fans....

I must say, I am a bit sad to see there will no longer be Twinkies, Ho Ho's, etc...being made...I grew up with these treats. Anyone else a Hostess lover??

I too grew up with Twinkies, Ho Ho's and Ding Dongs. They were a special treat when we were young, when we had a field trip my mom would always buy one of the treat for a surprise.

Another favorite was and still is....

I used to love Twinkies often but fell back to maybe once or twice a year. There are knock-offs made by other junk food makers but to me Twinkies have more creme filling and taste better. I don't think the brand will vanish though. Someone will buy the names, rights, and recipes and sell them again.

My wife went shopping today and although I didn't mention anything about it, she came home with a box of Ding Dongs and a bag of Hostess mini-donuts. She said Target had already sold out of Twinkies. I saw some on sale on eBay for $500 a box of 10 earlier today. Crazy. Someone will pay the price too.

Yes, that is correct. They later changed it to vanilla creme because of the banana shortage during WWII.

As I said in a previous post, the buyers are lining up to acquire Hostess assets.

This will not be the end of Twinkies. The brand has value, the factory has value, and the workers have value.

I would bet a good amount that the investment capital firm will end up with it all at a way low price and rehire everyone at a lower salary.

Fran and niece Adelaide were both addicted to Devil Dogs. Ad still is. Boy is she facing withdrawl symptoms! I personally didn't like them because the filling was...well, kinda' greasy to me. I would have much preferred the banana filling but I came into this world about a year or two too late. I think there's more than a little truth in the belief they actually had an unlimited shelf life!

I think it was Sweden (could have been Norway) that passed those dietary laws effectively gutting the one of the most famous pastry industres in the world. They were so economically disastrous because people were bringing butter and confectioner's sugar across the borders by the truckload. Makes you wonder why it took over a year before the idiots that passed those laws repealed them. We want you to be so healthy we're gonna' destroy that for which our country is famous!!! Duhhhhh.............

I've always referred to the local Ryan's buffet here in town as "The Hog Trough" because I swear, 7/8ths of the people who go into that place weigh in excess of three hundred pounds. I love the salad bar, but those people avoid it like the plague and make a beeline for the fried food section! Hmmmm......wonder why!

As I understand it, the company closed because the union was on strike, demanding more pay, and benefits. I wonder what will happen, if someone else buys the name, plant, etc., and then starts looking for folks to work there?

I like the Ding Dongs more than the Twinkies myself. The sno-balls were excellent, but I think they may not have made them for a while, I hadn't seen them at the grocery.

I actually worked at Wonder Bread during summers of college. They made cupcakes upstairs. Great stuff right out of the oven.

Reports are that Mexico's Grupo Bimbo is a leading contender to buy Hostess. That company already owns part of Entenmanns, Sara Lee, and Thomas' English Muffins.

That will probably happen. I'm a long time stockholder of Grupo Bimbo on the Bolsa exchange. They were also the first to open a tortilla plant in China too. They will do well with the Hostess line.

As Chico Escuela would say, "Bimbo been berry berry good to Snoozeman"

(I do more than just get my haircut in Mexico)

Marsdude, you are "right on the money" about Hostess. It is a proven commodity that will definitely sell to the right group of investors. People are now auctioning what they have on Ebay.

...that's funny...a twinkie junkie I guess.

I do recall reading a story about a guy that had eaten like 20,000 twinkies. He had one a day for most of his life.

When my parents first brought me to th US, I did not want to come. I had my group of friends and I loved the little town that I lived in.

The first thing that I liked in my new Country was hostess cup cakes and twinkies.

Many years have passed and a lot of things have changed but I still love Hostess products.

I agree. There are several companies looking to acquire them. I have been a Hostess chocolate cup cake fan my whole life.

When I was young I used to take a flat of the cinnamon roles you could buy, I think there were 8 of them in a pack, and eat the whole thing in one setting while drinking milk.

If I did that today I would end up in the hospital.

I did the same...I heated them first then put a dab of butter on the top.
