I just posted on the Disney thread the news that Disney has determined to deploy all of its four ships from Florida in the first half of 2014. I do not understand this reasoning but it falls in line with its parent company's bottom line dropping. This will hurt the Port of Houston's Bayport cruise terminal as I feel certain that one or more of the planned future tenants will bolt for Galveston now.

I know, in the past I've looked at their ships to sail on, and their prices are just a tad high, may-be making them more compatable with the other major lines would help a bit??

What part of all four ships exclusively departing from Florida, is including departing from Europe, Mediterran, Australia, South America, and all other points other than Florida?? Do you consider Florida to be the world?

Mehawk - where is Disney World? That's Disney's World.

Ray, since I moved here, Florida is my world as well. Of course we do travel to other places just as you do.
In litlle over a a week we will be going to Connecticut. Next year we will visit Kentucky and Tennessee among other places.
We are not Disney cruisers but they should spread their ships around a bit more.

The diversity of being able to do 3 itineraries from Florida, with 7 & 10 day cruises is a major draw. Maybe sailing west from Galveston over & over has lowered the revenue.

Last time I checked, Galveston was hardly the "world". If you think Disney is "snubbing" the world, its a pretty narrow view. But hey. It is Texas. Just dont sail over the horizon though. Its a pretty big drop.

At no time did I state that Galveston, Texas was the "world". That was your own interpretation.

Disney has shown in the past that they will cater to other markets seasonally. They've decided for at least a season or so that Florida will see all 4 ships. I am sure that our ships will return to Europe. I'm sure they'll return to the west coast. I'm sure NYC will see one again as well. Galveston? Hard to say. I have no access to any numbers, but it's my understanding that it's been a harder sell.
With Disney, people like combining the cruise with a visit to Walt Disney World. I see lots of guests that are doing 3 nights WDW 4 nights Dream. 4 nights WDW 3 nights Dream, or some mix of that. Not as many do WDW and Fantasy, just because of the longer cruise time. Disney is more than a vacation, its a true experience for the families that want it, and the cornerstone of that experience is Walt Disney World.
Now ... what *I* want to see is pairings of Adventures by Disney with Disney Cruise Line.
But we're a small line with only 4 ships right now. Florida is our home, and someone figures there's a market to have all 4 ships in Florida for awhile. So it will be.

Thanks, I've been busy as a one legged man in a you know what kicking contest with work. Then had my escape. Now gearing up for the holiday season. Heh, I think I should move my usual cruise plans to January. I usually take something end of Nov or early Dec. Love seeing the ships decorate for Christmas. But then I come back and have about 2 weeks before it gets chaotic at work. Maybe something early January to decompress after all of it.

I think most people like to cruise out of a warm climate in the winter. We cruised out of Mobile Alabama a few years ago and it was only 50 degrees when we left port. Really couldn't do anything outdoors until the next day when we were getting into warmer waters.
Talked to a lady one day and she was telling me that since she has to fly in from Canada to cruise, she always sails out of Puerto Rico because she knows it is always warm there!

And Disney LAND is in Anaheim CA. Why not put a Disney ship out of LA with options of a 3, 4 or 7 day cruise? Yes I know that the port choices are VERY limited, but it would be an option for those who choose to go to Disney LAND instead of Disney WORLD. After all, if you choose to cruise on Disney, do you not do it more for the ship and the Disney experience rather than the ports?

My thoughts also Lisa. Friends, I did not mean to convey that I thought Galveston was the "world" if that is what was thought. I only brought up Galveston because that is where the Disney Magic is currently sailing from and because Disney had a handshake agreement to continue out of Galveston for the 2014 season.

Yeah, I know that. I only made the comment to tie in to the topic title. My logic would mean Didney ought to put ships in LA, Tokyo and Paris.
Hmm ... four ships, four ports
