I also get the flu shot every year and i did get a pneumonia and shingle shots.

Since I have Lupus, an immune system disorder, I have been talking the flu shot for so long that I can't remember how long it is! I have also had the pheumonia shot, and as soon as I turned 60 I was in the doctor's office begging for the shingles vaccination. I am practically a phyical clone of my father. Whatever phyical characteristics he had, I have. If he suffered from something, I have had it too. I watched how miserable he was and how much he suffered when he had the shingles. I don't think the vaccination was available when he had it. But I knew I sure didn't want to get it, so I got the vaccination as soon as I was eligible. They won't give it before age 60.
I get flu shots yearly and have had a pneumonia shot in the past couple of years. I am due for the shingles shot, but waiting for proper timing. I get infusions for RA, so it must be timed in between infusions.
My DH gets yearly flu shots and recently had the shingles shot. He was recommended by our doctor to get shingles at 50 (he is 54) and, amazingly, the insurance covered it!

As a nurse, I have been getting the flu shot for the last 30 years. Required from some of my employers UNLESS you have a religious or medical reason (allergy to any of the ingredients in the vaccine). I'm not old enough to get the pneumo vax or the shingles vax. But, I have taken care of patients who have had the shingles who were in extreme pain....crying and screaming at the pain. If you can prevent yourself from getting the shingles, do whatever you can to do it!

I get a flu shot each year and had the pneumonia vaccine a number of years ago. About fifteen years ago, when I was a "healthy guy", I had shingles. It hurts like hell. Ecyclovir, Denavir, Dermboro and oxycontin were my friends. It put me out of work for over a week. I highly recommend the shingles vaccine for anyone who doesn't have an allergy to it. It's something you don't want to catch. I had pain for over a year but it wasn't severe.
BTW: If you have never had chicken pox you will not get shingles and do not need the vaccine. Also, the vaccine is only about 60% effective. That means that if you do get the vaccine you still have a 40% chance of getting shingles.
It is also "possible" to get shingles from the shingles vaccine.

It is a live vaccine. That is why it is "possible" to get shingles from the vaccine, especially if you are immune compromised. i.e. Chemotherapy, autoimmune disease, on immune suppressing medication such as prednisone.

I had a flu shot about 17 years ago, and had a terrible reaction to it. I am not old enough for the shingles shot. I have been very lucky with illiness. I haven't had the flu in years.
The only time I have gotten the flue in the past 20 years was the one time I got a flu shot!
