Look at biddingfortravel.com,and see what they are getting for hotels in your time frame, then use priceline. Mike & Kuki know Miami better...I stay in FLL, and shuttle to Miami..there is Intercontinental, Doubletree, which are near Bayside...you will get more suggestions, this I know

There are a lot of hotels near the Port of Miami - and across the street from the Holiday Inn and very close to the other hotels is the Bayside Market Place - a great place to wander through and sample some food and drinks....especially good Cuban food there.

If you use Priceline, you want downtown Miami and how many stars you wish to start with...Most are fairly close to the port, but I noticed you usually need to hire a cab to get to the pier ont he morning of the cruise, very few offer free shuttles.
