The Blizzard of '13

Well, folks, it looks as if those of us here in the Northeast are in for it according to the last weather report I just watched.

They are predicting 15" - 20" for our part of Connecticut which is West of Hartford about 14 miles. The northeast corner of the state is due for up to 30", which sort on indicates that Trip will get around that amount as well.

We have been fortunate the last couple of years as far as storms with large accumulations, so we are due.

I am working from home full time these days (and saving 200+ miles a week in commuting), so will not need to brave the elements. Plus, with living in a condo, someone else does the shoveling and plowing. We did our grocery shopping, which is usually Fridays, already, and so are as prepared as we can be.

While the snow is swirling and the winds howling tomorrow, I will be sure to look at the web cams form the various ports and dream of whan we will next be there.

For those who will be impacted by this storm, please stay inside. I hope everyone gets through it with no issues.

Been watching the weather reports, here in the midwest, we're getting our biggest storm his season, mix of everything, rain, sleet and now snow. So far, not fun, but nothing like what is going to hit our Eastern side...

That's a lot of snow! I just came in from shoveling the heaviest snow ever but not as bad as what your going to have. Be safe mates!

Please don't be heroes. Stay inside and off the roads. Don't shovel very much unless you know you are in excellent condition. Don't obsess over what you "should" be doing, either at work or anywhere else. Shelter in place, be content that spring is coming at some point, and be at peace.

Unfortunately Homeland Security will not stop it at the border...it is heading all the way up the Atlantic coast and hitting the Maritimes sometime late tonight and into tomorrow. We are looking at 35-45 cms of snow and high winds, all plans cancelled for this weekend!

This part of NY will likely get 25 to 29 inches . We are in an evacuation area as we are surrounded by water on 3 sides .However ,other than shelters we have no place to go .My daughter and family are still here while their home is being rebuilt from Sandy .The 6 of us + 2 pets will stay here and hope for the best .

I just showed my 4 year old grand daughter pictures of me during the Blizzard of 1947 .Other than 1888 that was the worst in the history of NY .

I feel bad for eveyone in the blizzards path. That includse my son and my daughters who live in Central Connecticut. I lived there for 54 years myself so I have seen my share of snow.

Now that I live in the Sunshine State, I send my prayers and I hope that you all stay safe.

The storm did live up to the hype it seems. Here where we are we have somewhere around 20" or more of snow, and it is still coming down, but not hard. It is difficult to tell because of the drifting, but suffice it to say there is a lot.

The governor has closed all the roads except for emergency vehicles in order to facilitate the clean up. The road here in our condo complex hasn't been touched, and with the roads closed, who knows when it will be.

We never lost power, and so are snug here, and warm. We have enough supplies, so we won't go hungry. The plan is to stay put and not go out at all today or even tomorrow if need be.

It is getting light, and the snow is pretty. New England.....you have to love it.....

I too, like Manuel, lived up north for years (Long Island and NJ) and feel your pain. That is one of the reasons I moved to FL; to stop shoveling snow. Be safe and pay the "younger" kids to shovel!

I love New England, but I am very happy in Palm Coast, Florida and this is where I will stay.
I do go back to visit family, but I don't plan to go back during the winter.

I send my prayers to folks who lost their power and I hope that everyone stays safe.

Good morning from a snowy community .Parts of our area have as much as 38" of snow .We slept with flashlights nearby but did not need them as we did not lose power . Our town Supervisor mandated that nobody be on the roads unless medically necessary .Several of the highways are closed .
No flooding here but on monday rainstorms are predicted which may cause flooding .
Manuel:I hope your family members are doing okay . I heard that its very bad in Maine ,Rhode Island and CT .

They are doing OK. None of them lost power. The amount of snow where my son lives was over three Ft... It's a condo complex and they brought in a couple of bulldozers to clear the snow.

Here in southern NH we got, roughly, two feet. One corner of my back deck is blown completlely clear, but other places are over 5 feet. Between the fine nature of the snow and all the wind, even the stuff that blew in under the garage door managed to build weird four-foot tall twisted sculptures. No one around here lost power, though. It was much colder this time than in the blizzards of '69 or '78, and so the snow was lighter and blew off of the trees instead of clinging to them.

One can live in Long Island and NJ and not have to shovel nor pay anyone to shovel .If you live in a community setting it is done for you .I am also not necessarily referring to senior developments .

Yes you can!

My last residence in Ct. was a condo, so I did not have to shovel snow. I did have to clean the snow and ice from my car and I had to drive during snowy and icy conditions.

Now that I am older it's just easier to not have to deal with cold weather.

One of our friends still cannot get out of their house .They have 35" of snow and their cars are buried.
