Exclamation Social Networks

I don't. I tried Facebook for about a week, then dropped out. Kept getting requests to be "friends" with people I had never heard of, simply because they were known by someone's fifth cousin of a relative of someone at work, who used to work for another company that the first company did business with.........Kept saying "no". Besides, I don't need to know what someone had for lunch yesterday, or what sort of rash they now have.

I am signed up for Facebook, but I regard it as a news source and rarely post anything.

Have never participated in such things. I have never gone on Facebook, tweeted, Skyped, texted, none of it.

I was on FB solely to look for "lost" school people and only one day.

Talking Party Line

We also had a party line on our first phone. You could tell from the number of rings whether the call was for you or someone else. If you picked up, you could also hear "clicks" on the line, meaning someone else had also picked up. So, you had to be careful what you said, because you never knew who was listening.

Which reminds me of a funny story (I'm digressing here).....At the barber shop I go to, there's a seldom-used rotary phone back near the men's room. A young guy who was waiting for a haircut asked if he could use the phone, and was told yes, he could. A minute or so later, he came back in and said the phone wouldn't work. He said, "I keep putting my finger in the holes and pushing, but the call won't go through". He had never seen a rotary phone, and had no idea how to use it.

What a bunch of old fogies!!!

Actually, if you think about it, the Cruisemates boards could be classified as a social network. We network around a common interest, cruising.

I do FB but only have 30 friends and have no desire to add to my list. It's been a great way to keep up on my friends and family. I have received friend invites but don't have the desire to connect with people from the past, there's a reason there in my past
nor do I play all the games.

DougR.
I'm with you on this. This site is a social network, though centric to a common interest. Now here's the rub, I've created something new for cruise guests, but I can not tell you in this site created for cruise fans or my post will be "moved." So, I use the other social media outlets to get the word out. While I disdain the overuse and abuse from some users on the other social networks sites, the sites themselves do serve as an useful outlet to provide information if used responsibly.

The ability to hide disdainful topics on your FB page is golden. Everbody uses their page, for their points of view. I hide religeous, political, and the like on my page every day. It's my friend's right to post whatever they feel like, but, it's my right not to look at it. Many of the open debate topics here on CM, would be hidden on my FB page. One click and poof! Having the ability to debate these issues, for those that are interested, here, or, there, does serve a purpose. I totally agree that Cmn and sites like ours are focused social media. Our chat room, was like our own instant FB page

CC, I design and sell jewelry, if I were to post something to sell here, it would be against tos and be removed. Your ability to use social media to present your product is a good thing...I hope you do well.

FB can be abused by some, and wonderful for many more..to each their own.
