Default Bye, Bye Gallbladder

Well I'm feeling very on edge as the doctor called and suggested it's time for the gallbladder to come out. After watching polyps in the gallbladder growing in size over the last year she now thinks it's time. I will be calling the surgeon tomorrow.

The surgery is nothing like it use to be. It's now a laproscopic procedure and basically a "same day" surgery. My wife had hers out a few years ago and she was up and feeling great the next day. She enjoyed her one week off of work

If you need it done then get it done and don't worry too much about it.

Just make sure you have a doctor that has done the procedure many times and has thrown away their rusty instruments.

Take care,
Mike

Hi Aerogirl,
May be time, wishing you well and a quick recovery....Like Mike said, it is usually a one day deal, but then of course you'll have to take it easy for awhile... Just call and get all the details, good luck...

Thanks Mike & Donna
It's the polyps that have me worried ,hopefully their non cancerous , doctor said she's not over concerned so I guess that good.

Aerogirl, I want to encourage and wish you well. My wife had hers out a few years ago and everything went well and she has not missed it.

AeroGirl, no surgery is pleasant but as others have said, it's nothing like the old days when they did a major incision.
I had mine out a few years ago--3 small incisions--one to pump your tummy full of gas to expand it so they can see--one for the surgeon to use his instruments and another for the camera so he can see everything.
You'll be fine. Just rest up for a few days--don't try to overdo it too quickly.

It's a nothing surgery. I've had it done, and the polyps are probably nothing, too. Only one way to find out. Good luck. xoxo

You'll be fine.

Our son had his out (and he was 28 at the time), and I sat in the waiting room until they were done and drove him home. Said it was not a big deal.

With today's medication, being put to sleep is a piece of cake. I've had that done to me 3 times in the last three years what with two knee surgeries and a problem with kidney stones. And then the present day pain killers definitely work very well, especially dilaudid, which is great for me.

Now, 3 years later, he has two very small scars to show what he went through.

Obviously, it sounds scarey and the anticipation is horrid. But trust me when I say, the expectation is worse than the actual event itself.

So all I can offer is to say, relax. You're in good hands and it's not a big of a deal as you think it might be.

But our thoughts and prayers are with you!

Pete

If you have any trouble with anesthesia, tell them. They can give you medications to help with nausea, etc. I use to get very ill from the anesthesia, but my last two surgeries I told them how sick I get and they gave me stuff and had NO problems!

Thanks for all the positive thought as I just re-read all of them to help calm myself.
I've had a few surgeries over the years but for some reason this one has me a little thrown, I know I'll be fine. I was given the option by the surgeon to stay the night but I'm thinking home would be better.
Thanks again my dear mates, I'll be talking with you soon.
