I was coming on here to start this. Let's add our collective thoughts and prayers for these people.

We are also under a watch, but so far, we are good.

I pray for all of those people. When you live in a tornado prone area you feel a kinship to others who are in the same boat. The report I just heard on the radio said today's tornado in Moore was almost two-miles wide at one point.

They are saying now that it was probably one mile wide, but I am sure it will be days before they know, for sure.

They are saying a total of 16 tornados today in Ok. It is still very warm, and daylight, so there could be many more by night fall.

If I heard correctly they were given an 18 minute warning and the twister was on the ground for 40 minutes.

Last Friday we had no warning and were not even under a tornado watch when a small tornado developed literally out of nowhere a couple miles west of my house. We had some rain forecast and perhaps some wind gusts from what were likely garden-variety spring storms. Suddenly the county EMA triggered the sirens and beat the weather service just because of a radio report of a tornado on the ground from a city employee. You just never know anymore. No matter how much they do to improve warnings they can't catch them all. It's been a quiet spring here in the tornado zones but they seem to be coming alive now.

In our case it was an EF-0 tornado of around 80 mph wind speed and perhaps 100 feet wide. Still blew down some signs and damaged roofs.

My heart and best thoughts go out to all who were effected by the tornadoes. This was a storm outbreak of massive devastation.

Hoping for the best,
Mike

I do believe this is going to be the new normal as our weather has been changing throughout the world. Now is the time to develop a safety plan for your family in the event something arises . I feel it's not about "if" but now about "when" it's going to happen.

Anyone who lives in a tornado area and doesn't have either their own storm shelter or an emergency plan to get to a community shelter is playing a deadly game.

We bought a shelter last year, finally, after yet another tornado (EF-3) passed just a couple hundred feet north of our house. That got my attention after all these years of near-misses. All we lost in March 2012 was some trees, a blown-open door, and our power for several days. I have to tell you, riding it out in our downstairs bathroom made me feel totally vulnerable - and shortly afterwards selfish and stupid. Putting off buying a shelter all those years so I could use the money on a new car, or yes, a cruise. Dumb dumb dumb.

If there is any good news this morning, it is the death toll has dropped in Moore.

A good point was made by somebody on Facebook last night. School districts will pay for new athletic fields and band uniforms but they don't think of installing underground storm shelters for the students and staff.
