Default What's with cruise ship carpets?

Since Skymaster was wondering about wallpaper I thought I would ask about carpets on cruise ships. You ever notice how loud and bright cruise ship carpets are? Why is that? And would you put any of the carpets below into your house?
Princess Carpet

Carnival Carpet.

NCL Carpet

RCCL Carpet

Celebrity Carpet

No, but then again the largest room in my house can not be measured in thousands of square feet.

On the NCL Norway, you knew which deck you were on by the color and design of the carpet...each deck was a different deck

Also, on NCL ships, the fish on the carpeting always swim toward the front of the ship. No, there are not real fish on the carpet. It's a nice feature to let you know which way to go off of the elevator.

Take care,
Mike

I love most of them....they add another layer of fun, and ambiance to the ship...I do think the main reason is to keep your eyes moving around, rather than to focus on the fact, there may be a stain. Most large, public spaces do the same.

I too love the wild carpets on cruiseships, makes it very interesting. Yes, it also helps me to know where I am by the carpet design....

A part of the design logic is based in psychology. Colorful carpets with designs evoke excitement, and therefore can boost spending in casinos, bars and nightclubs, etc.

So in rough waters when folks are seasick, the bright swirling colors settles the stomach when you are walking back to your cabin?

Ahhhhh...............No.

As someone who has a balance problem, evidenced by my currently broken leg and other broken bones, the patterns on the carpets can actually be disorientating to someone like me. The patterns are pretty but I don't like them. Then again, I'm the minute minority and the cruise lines shouldn't change because of me.

Take care,
Mike

I don't mind the mildly patterned carpets so much, it' s pairing them with other-patterned walls, floors, tables, drapes, upholstery, none of which match, only clash, AZ particular Carnival ship comes to mind....

Mike..I was kidding...there must be a logical reason for the selection of carpet designs..is the material easier to keep clean?

Now this makes perfect sense to me. Probably the NCL fish swim directly to the gift shops.

Sounds like the overly pink Carnival ship the Splendor.

In general I don't pay much attention to carpets on ships.

The only time that I disliked some of the carpets was eleven years ago on the Carnival Sensation. At that time the ship was needing a makeover and many of the carpets were in lousy condition with plenty of stains.

I don't mind the carpets so much when I'm on the ships but I would not like to see them in my house. Fine for cruising but too busy for the house.
