Default Return of Twinkies!!!!

Are you excited?

My friends in grade school, who brown bag their lunch, always seem to have them

Have you ever seem them served on a cruise ship?

Do you have a favorite Twinkies story?

I never like them as a child...I preferred Wise Potato Chips.

These days I read the labels on food items before I place them in my cart so I don't even turn to go down the snacks and soda aisle at WalMart

I have not liked them since I was a kid. Anything that has a 45 day shelf life is way too processed for me. Not too into eating food made out of chemicals. I too read labels.

I like Twinkies.

Many years ago I used to eat them pretty often.

When I see them again I will buy some.

The original cream filling was banana flavor.

I snagged a box right when they were going out of bussiness and YUCK!!!!
I remember as a kid we would get them only for school fied trips, it was always special. I wish they would bring back the cupcakes now that's yummy.

I like them fine. For some reason they tasted better to me in the two-packs you'd get in vending machines, along with a cup of black coffee.

But I won't be rushing out on Monday to get Twinkies. It has been an occasional treat for a long time, maybe twice a year.

Were those the cupcakes where you could peel the frosting off the top and it stayed together as one piece? They were pretty good.

The thing with Hostess was they put more creme filling in their cakes than the others did. More filling and less cake. They always seemed moister to me too.

Even as a kid I was never a Twinkie fan. As a kid I did like the cupcakes but I had one about ten years ago and it was just nasty. It tasted like plastic chocolate and shortening filling.

Now the Hostess Apple and Cherry Fruit Pies were my favorite and I had an apple one about two years ago and it was pretty good. Extremely sweet but good.

Are they bringing the fruit pies back?

Take care,
Mike

I like those products as well. What I really miss are ( Table Talk Pies ). Those are available in New England but I haven't found them in Florida. Of course should not be eating that stuff anyway.

It’s a question that’s dogged Steve Ettlinger for years. The author of the book “Twinkie, Deconstructed” spent months of his life interviewing chemical engineers, questioning industrial bakers and even traveling 1,600 feet below the surface of the Earth to see where Twinkie ingredients are mined. (Mined!)

To be sure, the Twinkie contains easily recognizable ingredients, such as flour, sugar, water, eggs, whey and salt. But Ettlinger dug and dug until he understood what the terms Polysorbate 60, Red 40, mono and diglycerides and calcium sulfate really meant. (Spoiler alert: Calcium sulfate is a food-grade equivalent of plaster of Paris.)

But even if, as Ettlinger writes, many of the Twinkie’s ingredients are “more closely linked to rocks and petroleum than any of the four food groups,” they still technically come from the Earth, right? Hence the mind-bending “all natural” question.

Wise chips are great when you squirt hot butter from an old time theater dispenser on them and saturate them with a layer of sea salt.

I have bought some of those little WallMart pies but they are not as good as the Table Talk.
Every time that I go back to Connecticut the first thing I do is buy some Table Talk Pies.
I wish that I could buy them in Florida.

Neither of us has really liked Twinkies, but DH does like Ding Dongs ! I'm hoping they'll be back soon, too.

I was raised without much sugar. When my friend's and I went to the local store they bought candy and I bought one of the big pickles that were sold at the butcher's counter. Still miss them... .

For those of us in the Hudson Valley back then, not only did we have Table Talk pies (yes, they are the best, especially the blueberry) but we also had Freihofer's Bakery which sold bread and snack cakes and pies regionally. Freddie Freihofer was the logo and they had a TV show for kids, and they made good stuff. Their chocolate chip cookies were a primo choice. Small cookies but they were soft and melted in your mouth
.

Freddie, we're ready, we're waiting for you!

We also had Freihofer's products in Ct., for years I bought their old fashioned bread.
As far as snack cakes and pies, I used to buy Hostess Cup Cakes, Funny Bones, Twinkies and Table Talk Pies.

As a child, I was once on the Freddie Freihoper kids tv show...loved the white bread, but would not dare go near it these days for fear my dietian would strangle me

I notice that Freihoper is now the title sponsor of the Saratoga Performing Arts annual Jazz Festival every August
