Default My mother is lucky to be alive today

On Friday my mom was driving down the freeway and on the other side of the freeway a tire came off a mini van across and hit the hood of her car bounced to the roof of the car. This smashed in the windshield and caved in the roof on my mom's head pinning her in the car. Crazysis was sitting next to her and her arm got ripped up by the glass. Meanwhile, my mom had major swelling on her face, glass in her eyes and mouth, and a broken hand. She is very lucky it didn't hit her straight on or she would be dead. She was going 65 MPH that tire was probably doing the same. There was a semi truck driver who saw the whole thing and blocked traffic protecting her from being rear ended until emergency service could get her out of the car and to the hospital. I thank God my mother is still alive today.

In this picture you can see where the tire hit the hood.

This picture shows you why she was pinned after the accident.

I thank God that your Mom and your Sister survived the terrible accident.
I send my prayers and I hope that they get well quickly.

That is scary and I am happy that both Sis and Mom are doing as well as they are. I hope they quickly mend.

Take care,
Mike

My poor mom looks pretty bad. Her whole face is swelled up and one eye was closed and is so black. But she didn't require hospitalization. So that's good. Her hand was on the steering wheel and the knuckles and wrist bones are broken. I'm taking her to her doctor's appointment. They will see if her hand requires surgery or not.

I just wonder why the wheel came off the mini van. Did the person secure the wheel themselves or was it done at a tire store. If it was done at a tire store the person who did it might not know what they are doing. They could put other people in danger with their incompetence.

My mom is a tough cookie she's in pain, but has a great attitude. She is just so happy to be alive. Crazy sis' arm is healing nicely. No broken bones just cuts where the glass embedded into her skin. My nephew was in the back seat. When he heard the boom of the tire hit he pulled the hood of his jacket over his head. This protected him from flying glass. Smart kid.

Out of all the hazards of driving you don't expect a wheel to come flying at your face. Crazy accident. The airbags didn't deploy because the damage is all at the top of the car. This is probably also a good thing. Waiting to hear if the insurance totals the car or tires to repair it.

Thank God your mom is okay. Our thoughts and prayers for a speedy and complete recovery!

When I was driving tractor trailers back in the early 70's, I once saw a tire come off a big rig - obviously, much bigger than the one that hit your mom. It rolled across the medium strip, across two lanes of traffic, and down the mountain without hitting anyone! It was a miracle no one was hurt as it could have been disastrous.

Unfortunately, strange things happen on the road, which is why is so vitally important to pay attention out there.

Just glad it wasn't worse.

Pete

Did they get all the glass out of her eye (s)? Very important, as my brother lost sight in one eye due to a freak accident of removing a tarp from a semi and the bungee cord slipped and hit his glasses throwing glass in his eye.

So glad the family is doing so well. It could have been so much worse. Someone (along with the Walmart truck driver) was watching out for your mom, sis and nephew!

I'm glad the truck drive protected them from other people running into them. I wish them a speedy recovery.
