Default Barf and Plop.

I have observed that what is in stores are a reflection of the culture. In Iran there is diswashing detergent called Barf and in Sweden there is a candy bar named Plop. Rather offputting names to an American. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered odd-named products or foods in their travels, or am I the
only one that thinks them odd.

I always thought blood pudding was pretty revolting but it is quite good.

I love to discover local oddities like that...part of the fun traveling internationally, is walking around and seeing local customs, dress, festivals and such...I just saw Andrew Zimmern yesterday, eating blood pudding...I'll pass, thanks.

Bimbo is the largest baking company IN THE WORLD by far.
Discloser: I own Bimbo stock through the Bolsa (mexican stock exchange).

One of my favorites:

When Chevrolet tried to market the NOVA in Latin America, nobody bothered to look up what nova means in Spanish.

They sold dozens. Maybe.

And "piscine" (pronounced piss-in) is French for swimming pool.

This name always caught my attention. It's a Mexican bakery called Bimbo.

My favorite is they sponsor the soccer team chivas de guadalajara so sometimes you will see a female fan wearing this shirt.

Well shoot I posted then read the thread. So great minds think alike. I'm a California native so they sell Bimbo products in every store. I haven't try it but it looks good.

I like this topic so let's take a look at some products.
These chips look so good.

Okay so how I'm thirsty. Let's grab a nice cold cola.

Maybe with this cola we can watch some fireworks.

Unless you want soup instead of the chips.

Your teeth are important to don't forgot to brush.

And Rinse.

Last one cause it's fun.

Most everyone has tried Bimbo, they just don't know it as the brands are marketed locally. They sell nearly half the bread in Texas as they own Mrs. Beard's the long time Texas bakery. If you've had Sara Lee, Earth Grains, Oro-wheat, or many more then you've had Bimbo. They also own tortilla plants in China!

I think they sponsor 3-4 football teams. Good company.

There is a fun YouTube video showing a number of words with wildly different meanings in different languages. Most are short one syllable words like the ones DA started us with. I think it was a Buzzfeed video but couldn't find it to repost

Katlady really got into this subject. Now I want to know how Puke chips tasted. What are they made of. Are they a California treat?

We have Bimbo bread in the states too, but I'm near enough to Mexico so that's probably why. For awhile they were running the Bimbo bread commercials, which was pretty funny at first..they have their own song and everything. Lovely.

I used to buy Bimbo bread in Connecticut and it's available in at least some places in Florida as well.
