Default Are people posting less?

Is it my impression or are people posting less? Is it a seasonal thing or are people becoming less interested in cruising?

For me it's simply a case of less people asking questions that I feel I can help with.

But am still watching the post titles & contributing where & when appropriate

Default Are People Posting Less?

I don't think it's either of the things you suggest, Manuel. I think they've all drifted to FaceBook and other techie places. It's really a shame.

Judy, it is a shame that people are posting less.

I have made friends with several Cruisemates whom I have exchanged e-mail address with, but I still love to see them post.

When I was here 10 years ago, there were several hundred posts to chit-chat every day.

I agree with Ship, it has changed. Many who use to post here, are all together on FB, and in fact if something is said, especially on the debate section, I will get e-mails, with comments.

Many still come here, but they are not posting.

I guess that I don't post, because I don't have anything worth saying. Perhaps it is time to formulate a new verse.

I generally visit the site every day but only reply to a thread if I feel I have something to add. That being said I still feel that many "cruisemates" are my family and on a daily basis I think of many regular posters ie: Lakers Fan and Todd and wonder how they are doing. I am well below 1000 posts but have been a regular to the site for many years.

Many of those who I considered my friends, are no longer around. Many others who ARE here, insist on bringing up politics, and other controversial subjects. I had a minor "run in" with a principle of Cruise Mates, and as a result, there's not a lot left here for me. I stop by, and browse occasionally. When I have something I consider of value to add, I'll post.

People are posting less for sure. I miss the old days here when we would discuss our cruises and plan the next one. I remember the excitement when a group cruise was planned and we all looked forward to it eagerly. I only got to go on one but I was so excited to meet so many Cruise Mates. I remember all the buzz in here when everyone was planning the New Years cruise on Celebrity. I would love to see all that come back again. I noted a real drop in the interest in Central Florida dinners. I remember when I was in NH how badly I wanted to get here to Florida and go to the dinners. I was lucky to attend quite a few and meet many great folks doing so.
I do miss the good old days in Cruise Mates.

This has been a very informative thread, and I'm glad so many have voiced their feelings.

The one that got to me the most was from Sky. For those who have not met him, and his beautiful wife. He is very warm and caring.

It breaks my heart that he feels less for those who have brought up politics.

I can't help it. I can't begin to tell you how much politics is effecting our lives. WE don't want it to, but it does.

It has become more and more difficult to smile, and wish everyone a good morning, and not mention what is going on.

For many of you today is a normal Wed. but for us we have a dead soldiers wife, who because of politics can't get to Dover to meet her husbands casket. None of us have money to help, so we are hoping an organization will help out.

I have friends on here, who have been with me in so many ways. This was more than "just" a cruise web site, but has, in many ways, a life line. I will always be grateful.

I check in here several times a day. Often there is nothing new to comment on.

If the site was busier, I think we would post more.

chicken and egg.

Maybe not enough is being used to market this site and bring more traffic.

The site owners want people to come and research cruises, not to chit-chat. I doubt they have even noticed the drop in posts in the overall picture.

Did anyone call the media? This would be a great way to get the word out and collect some money. I'll be happy to contribute to the fund, just let me know.

Default Are People Postoing Less?

A couple of things. First, because of personal budgets, I think people are cruising less. For those fortunate enough to cruise regularly, once they've done it a couple of times, they no longer need advice.

Second, for those who say they have nothing important to add to Chit Chat, you're wrong! It's like talking over the back yard fence. People don't say anything earth shaking then, either. We're talked over this internet fence for years. Some times it is because we are in agony, some times we express joy in so many ways. Please do post on Chit Chat. We all wonder what's happened to you and wonder what you're doing.

CruiseMates was a life line for years back when my DH had brain surgery and grand mal seisures. I remember opening my first sentence by saying, "I just glimpsed into hell." Now, years later, he'll have surgery again for knee replacement. I hope it will not be as scarey. Your prayers will be appreciated.

Judy

I wish you DH a successful surgery and I'm sending my prayers for a quick recovery.

This place is dead. Carnival seems to get a decent amount of posts, other than that it's political and find a room mate.

I don't for one second believe that a decrease in cruising is to blame. Cruise Critic seems to be doing just fine.

THANK YOU for the kind words Luanne! You KNOW that I'm NOT talking about you, when I pointed out that the many of those here, are ONLY interested in talking about very controversial political topics. Jim and YOU are my hero's!
Bernie, I agree with you that it isn't a lack of cruising that's causing the drop in interest, and posts here. I'll do 8 cruises this year,,the most ever, and in talking to others aboard, lots of folks are just like me, and are taking advantage of the GREAT prices available these days. It's simply that I'd much rather "talk" about cruising, than politics.

Hello gang,,,For some strange reason I clicked on here tonight and found this thread. I haven't posted here in a long long time but want to let you all know I still think of you "my friends" often. I'm not sure why I drifted away,,,guess it was just that my busy life got in the way. Maybe it's the FB thingee,,,as I'm on it with allot of folks from here. But one thing for sure,,,allot of names are missing from this thread. I don't know why folks have moved on,,,maybe it's the politic thing,,,but like Luanne said some things just need to be addressed. But it's sad,,,this was once "the place to be for cruisers" Wishing all my "old" cruise friends a wonderful day

I still post as often as I did when I first joined Cruisemates. However it was a happier place a few years ago before many posters left.

I try to get in most every day even just to read the posts. I do belong to Facebook but have problems with the performance of that site. I can be on it for about 20 minutes and then my computer starts slowing and really working hard to work. I have a hard time to type anything because it will skip whole words that I typed and I spend forever correcting it. Sometimes I cannot even get a cursor to appear so I can type. When I shut the Facebook window after a few moments things return to normal.
I would rather be here but then again if no one else is then what is the point? Lots of days I leave this site up and running on my computer to see little activity. Makes me sad.

Laura, it makes me sad, too.

Ken, I never talk about politics here. There's a special site for it. Apparently, lots of people are turned off by politics. Why can't they just ignore it and come chat?

I agree 100% Judy. When, and IF I want to get political opinions, I'll go over to one of the MANY political sites. (HMMMM,,I don't think I've ever seen anything posted over there about CRUIZING! )
