I hope I said what I meant in the subect, because what I meant is Kindles again. I know there is an existing post buried somewhere deep in the many pages of posts, but I thought what the heck, let's see what happens with a new one.
I will admit a touch of selfishness in this,as I have just ordered 2 new Kindle Paperwhites for Mrs S and myself. So, that having been said, does anyone out there have one, and if so, what are your impressions?
The old Kindles we have are perfectly fine, with one exception - you can't read in the dark without an external light source. The Kindle Paperwhte solves that problem.
OK you say, why would you want to read in the dark? Fair question, and that brings me back to cruising....convoluted thought process, but bear with me.
For a few years now, we have opted out of formal nights. (this is not meant to rekindle(you should pardon the pun) any of the old "I love Formal Nights - I hate Formal Nights no-win threads). Instead, we either go to one of the Specialty restaurants early, or go to the buffet, or go to Bistro on Five. When we are done, we like to sneak off to a secluded part of the ship, and read our Kindles. Therein lies the issue. We would love to go out to the pool deck, or into the Solarium to read, but the lighting has always been a problem Not any more. So when we are on Summit over Thanksgiving, we will be able to eat early, then find a cozy lounger in the Solarium, and read and enjoy the T-pool should we want.
Probably TMI (as our granddaughter texts us), but anyway, any comments or observations on the Paperwhite would be appreciated.
Oh, and if I got the subject title wrong, please feel free to correct me.
Before you replace or not use your original Kindles, look for cover with the attached reading light. I have one on my Kindle and use it every night, its perfect for reading right before sleep...I don't recall the cost, but I don't think it was very expensive.
If you want to "just" read, then get the Paperwhite..I have the Kindle Fire and do everything on it, just like an IPad. I love the book shelf on it,so I can see all my books, with their covers, there is also a 7" version, but I love the 10" screen, which like the PW, it can be used just to read.
As an aside, if you use the search box,and just type Kindle in it, it wil ring up the older Kindle thread.
Trip, with her book & tea!

I love my Kindle Paperwhite, the ease of use and most importantly the excellent customer services provided by amazon. Several months ago, a bottle of wine inside my grocery bag broke and my kindle got soaked. Amazon sent me a new one, even though damages from wine was not covered under the warranty. Keep in the mind, the light never completely shuts off, and even at the lowest setting you can still see the back light. My only complaint about the Kindle Paperwhite is the lack of organization/collection sort. Paperwhite lumps together, either on device or cloud, your entire collection. While this is fine if you have fewer than 50 novels read cover to cover one or two at a time, once you have multiple genres, books which aren't meant to be read cover to cover (cookbooks), or if you want to sort and sequence series (particularly if the author has more than one), you'll have to figure out another way to keep track. Programming wise, this is not a difficult thing to do, and if the Kindles were based on an open platform like Android, the teenager next door would have fixed it last month.
