Default Mine Is Bigger/Better Than Yours!!!!

Have your ever been caught up in the friendly game of "my cruise ship vs your cruise ship " bragging rights with fellow cruisers from another ship?

The playing field is usually the hotel lobby while waiting for your shuttle, or in the shuttle when you enter the pier and the first sighting of your ships (i.e Ft Lauderdale when Carnival Freedom is next to Allure/Oasis of the Seas)waiting side by side or when you are at a port of call, where several ships are docked and everyone is shopping on one street (i.e. St Thomas)

Our jazz charter on the Carnival Freedom has a "host" hotel which usually holds about 1/2 of the guests and is the sight of the night before kick off party which attracts about 3000 jazz cruisers ...it's always fun to watch the expression and listen to the comments made by the guests of other cruise ships staying at the hotel....on the morning shuttle ride to the port everyone, regardless of which ship they are on, are in awe of the size difference between the Freedom and Allure/Oasis..in St Thomas when there are usually 5-8 ships in port the bragging contest really "heats up" but it's all in the spirit of fun (mostly untill the subject of how much did you pay for your cabin
I am a silent observer of the bragging contest, but I love to watch it
Have you ever observed or been a part of this endeavor

Bigger or smaller it makes no difference to me.

I have enjoyed the largest ships out there but I have had fun in some small ones as well.
From the Allure to the Scotia Prince and the Olympia there is a big difference in size, but I have never been on a ship that I did not enjoy.

The Pacific crossing on the USS William Weigel was not so pleasant but it was a 23 day event and I even got paid a few bucks a day. And the best part is that I lived to talk about it.

So I say to you all ( go out there and enjoy the small, the medium and the large)

What ever floats your Boat is out there for everyone to go and have fun.

Two instances come to mind. Once in port, people from the new Radisson Diamond, were complaining their new ship was boring, and, they wanted to jump ship to ours. This was a ship not around here long...not sure where it ended up, maybe Asia.

The next scenario, was when I was in the Tropicale, wishing I was on every other ship I saw in our ports..Hated this ship, and this is the only ship I can say this about.

It truly is amazing when you see Allure or Oasis sitting next to just about any other ship. While these ships are huge, it is not just about the size of them, it is all the features that come on them....Just so many options to do and places to eat, etc. that makes them so special...

When Allure or Oasis is in port you will always find a bunch of people around her looking and taking pictures and many of them are from other ships that are docked next to one of the big girls.

Next week I'm on Outstanding Oasis so yes automatic Bragging rights......And I just may do some Bragging.

No bragging but my eyes were opened when the DW and I were on the Carnival Magic for her inaugural US sailing. At one point, we were docked next to the Carnival Elation and while we were on the Lido deck, I observed that we were looking above the "whale tail" of the Elation! I realized the Magic was that much more larger than the Elation.

I remember when the Soverign of the Seas was launched...I was on the 2nd sailing....at that time it held the title of the largest ship at sea and with the layout and design innovations I was impressed until.....

I saw the Oasis of the Seas in port next to the Carnival Freedom in FLL...after 40+ cruises it takes alot to "wow" me but I have to admit, on the van ride from the hotel to the port, it was 50-50 mix for each ship...and for a few moments I was envious of those going on the Oasis..for their first ever cruise....the van drop off at the Oasis first and those of us on the Freedom were very quiet and in awe ....size does matter

On that day, we departed first and sailed past the Oasis but once we were out to sea
I remembered it's not the size of the ship that counts, it's the spirit and soul of the
cruisers onboard for that week, that makes or breaks the cruise experience...it's also a
sign that I am getting old...I longed for the old days, smaller ships, simple activities

CQ...we will cross paths the day you return on the Oasis, I'll be leaving on the Freedom on my Jazz charter...just roll your bags over and you can join us

CQ...the only extra outfits you would need to pack would be.....1) your favorite NFL team jersey
for our NFL Tailgate party on the lido deck....2) an "enticing" red outfit (with red stilettos) for our Red Hot theme night party...3) so that we are coordinated for the 80's Night Theme party, a Miami Vice outfit that Trudy wore when she and Crocket (my outfit) were undercover
busting an international drug cartel escort service

I've never done a B2B cruise before.....I thought about doing the West coast. B2B sailing of the Soul Train Cruise & The Smooth Jazz cruise on the Westerdam this month, but it was too close to the Capital Jazz SuperCruise

Never really heard any bragging about ship size. Most of the experienced cruisers I meet are all in agreement that the smaller ships are way better then the bigger ones.

We will be sailing on the Independence of the Seas in February. This will be the biggest ship I've ever sailed on so it should be interesting!

In all my years of cruising, never much heard bragging about the size of their ship until we were in St Thomas when 8 ships were in port the same day we were...surprisingly, the bragging came from the women while they were shopping. in the stores on that one main street with all the shops..at first all the men who were gathered outside the shops waiting for the women to finish, thought they were talking about something else

It's not socially acceptable to ask your tablemates at dinner, how much you paid for your cabin, but it seems to be ok when you are in port with other ships to compare size....the Oasis class is so much bigger and has all the "gee whiz" bells and whistles, that one can't help but to mention to fellow cruisers from another ship that is smaller and older..it's not bragging, it's networking...fyi...on that day our Ladies from the Carnival Freedom carried the day, they might have mentioned they had to be back onboard by 3:30 pm for a live concert featuring Will Downing

I love the big ships.

My next cruise will be on the Independence of the Seas. But the Oasis and the Allure are my favorite ships.

Bigger isn't always better. I will admit that in port last week (we were on Oasis) - I think we were docked next to Carnival Freedom in port. It look looked like a baby ship.

BUT - having sailed Oasis, surprisingly, I'm not in love. I will admit the ship is well designed, and you RARELY feel like you are at sea with 6000 passengers. BUT - I miss some of the things that you find on the smaller big ships - like the jumbotron, a movie theater, an omelette station in the windjammer. With all the dining options, there were a lot of empty seats around us in the MDR. Eventually, they got filled with MTD guests, but I like seeing the same people around me each night.

I'm saving the smaller ships for my old age. I love Celebrity Cruise Line but while I can I'm enjoying the big Royal ships.

I have been retired for over 4 years and I'm not getting any younger.

I plan to continue with the Mega ships even in my old age. I'll be the 75 year old grandma zip lining, rock climbing and dancing of course!
Love the Oasis class, Freedom class and Voyager class.

Well, last cruise I was on was a ten day Southern Caribbean on the NCL Sun. It's a small ship. My friend and I got to talking to some nice ladies on the way to the port who were on a bigger ship but were taking a seven day cruise. They seemed envious that we were getting a few extra days.
