Default What Your Kids Don't Want Travel Wise!!

Do you have an item (not family heirlooms or very personal attachments, or anything to do with financial matters etc) that you have collected in your lifetime of travel, that your grown children indicated they are not interested in keeping?

For example, I collect and frame Jazz Cruise & Festival posters that are signed by the artists.I also collect HAL tiles and some item with the ship's name on it from every cruise (40+) I've ever been on and every Country I have ever visited and I have my VW Beetle collection that my friend Luanne contributed to greatly on one of her trips to Germany

Except for my original signed lithographs from the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (increase in value) and the Ventian Carnival Mask from Venice that CrazySis brought back for me, my son & I agreed to donate everything else in my travel collection, to a local Veterans home

What is in your travels collection?

The only "memorabilia" that we have and the kids like are our Egyptian trinkets. A cat, Nefertiti bust and some papyrus. Oh yes, the diamond ring Betty bought at an antique dealer in Buenos Aires and a Patek Philippe I bought in China. (Both real). However I think they'll just sell those. I would.

We don't buy many things when traveling and the cruise ship "stuff" has been sold at garage sales or chucked. You can only have so many "ships on a stick".

Take care,
Mike

I gave my travel buddy a charm bracelet that has a combination of Jazz instruments (sax, trumpet, guitar, violin) and types of cruise vessels (Carnival Freedom charm, Maine Windjammer charm, France River Cruise charm, Venice Barge charm, Mississippi River Paddleboat charm)..she receives alot of compliments when she wears it on our cruises....I have ties that reflect all of the above (special made) that cruisers comment on

Due to the interest of size and packing, the only thing I collect now on my travels are lapel pins. I have one from every place I've ever visited, and they are on my travel backpack.

I scrapbook, so I look for stickers or other ephemera for my pages. Also, Christmas ornaments (or something that could be a Christmas ornament). I collect Hard Rock pins, but have missed some due to being on a land tour that did not stop close to Hard Rock (not a biggie).

One thing I started a few years back is collecting local postage stamps for the area. I have been successful at collecting quite a few stamps, which become part of my scrapbook pages. I was not able to collect any in Russia last July, though. I got stamps for all of our other stops, just not Russia.

I don't know if the girls will keep my scrapbooks. I hope they do. At least I will have them to help me remember my former travels!

We try to pick up something local from each port of call. For example - we have one of those granite/stone masks from Cozumel (you see them in all the shops). We have art from a street artist in Cuba. A wood carving from Falmouth. A soapstone carving from British Columbia. We don't feel obligated to by something in every port (for example we've visited Cozumel on just about every cruise).

But we like seeing stuff around our house that reminds us of our travels. Will our kids want this stuff - probably.

I also have a shot glass collection - A shotglass from every cruise plus almost every port of call and every city visited. {except I forgot to buy one on Eurodam - so I will just have to sail her again!)

My daughter has now started a keychain collection intending to buy a keychain in every port. My son wanted to start up his own collection. He bought a wooden turtle in Cozumel last year. He thought he would try and collect wooden animals. This because a hard one to find. In Falmouth he found a wooden knife (the artist carved his name into it!). In Cozumel, he bought a slingshot. So now he has expanded his collection to all things made of wood.
