Marzipan???

This weekend New Orleans is having it's annual Scandinavian Jazz Festival:cool::cool:I've always wanted to attend but I miss it every year due to scheduling conflicts...my friends who do attend tell me it's great because they have jam sessions where Norweign Jazz artists play with Jazz artists from the French Quarter

Their signature item that they sell out of is Marzipan...have you had it and do you like it

Historically marzipan was big in cities that used to be in the Hanseatic League primarily in the Baltic areas. So yes it's big in Norway, Denmark & Northern Germany.

Read my last review I visited the most famous marzipan shop in the world in Lubeck. RaysCruiseBlog

It's very good, a nutty taste. I bought chocolate covered cherries on marzipan.

Marzipan :x - not for us thanks, not sure why as I love almonds (the basis of marzipan) but just cannot enoy marzipan.

I think it may be to do with the sweet version used in cakes such as battenburg, or traditional wedding cakes. Mum used to love battenburg, and I had a real dislike for it, so cannot bring myself to eat it in any form now.
Katrina has no real reason other that "yuck!" not sure that helps ;)

As Snoozeman said, it is really big in Northern Germany, and if you ever see a product by Niederegger you are looking at one of the top names.

Guess you will have to try it now, and let us know what you think :)

Yes, my grandmother used to make it, had a specific almond taste, was wonderful and took a long time to make.

Has anyone ever seen it served on a cruise:shock:that would probably be the place I would try it

When I return from my cruise, I will call the Church where the Festival is held and ask which local bakery makes it

I really enjoy attending the year round cultural festivals that New Orleans offers so that I can try different foods and especially desserts

Thanks everyone, I'll let you know when I try it

Yes they serve it on MSC the Italian cruise line. Just booked another cruise on them too.

Marzipan is also big in northern Italy due to the early trade through Venice.
